Scared myself a few days ago

Getting ready for work, last thing I do is put on my sneakers. I slipped the first one on my foot, grabbed the laces and started to tie them…..and couldn’t remember how!!! 😱

I’ve been tying shoes for 70 years. It’s so completely on automatic that I don’t even remember doing so every morning. And yet that morning, late last week, my brain just….I don’t know….glitched I guess!

I tried several times and the more I tried the more freaked out I got! I finally just got up and went to make my breakfast with them untied. A few minutes later I tried again and it went perfectly.

What WAS that???? Ever happen to you where something you’ve done without thinking your whole life you suddenly couldn’t remember how?
 

Just do things by body memory, don't think about it. That works better than when that "OMG what did I just do/or not do"
kicks in. That rush of panic gets you every time. It is scary though right?

I did a similar thing one morning filling the Brita pitcher.
Had the tap water filling it, suddenly doubted myself and honestly reached for the water container with the filtered
water in it. DH was right next to me, he gently pats my back and says "You got his Love, you doing it right" :ROFLMAO:

Sometimes there's just a glitch in the system. 🤗

I can tie shoelaces (or at least, I could a lot more easily if it weren't for the problems I'm having with one hand), but DebraMae's problem does sound awfully familiar to me. I am constantly forgetting words, especially people's names. Recently I was trying to remember all my grandchildren's middle names, and could only remember about half of them! Usually the missing words do pop into my head about a half hour later.

I do all the above. I figure it was just that brain fart thing that @Jazzy1 mentioned 😂 or as I sometimes refer to those kinds of things, a senior moment.

My sweet husband has a different explanation. With a straight face he will say “I’m suffering from CRS” and sounds so serious that his audience becomes concerned and asks what that is.

His response? “CRS. Means can’t remember sh**

I have had three concussions, two of them serious. As a result I will forget words.

Early after the second concussion, which knocked me out for nine minutes, I could see and grab the 3/8 wrench husband asked for but I could not say the word. I still have those glitches, but they are rare.

I do take supplements and do a LOT of crossword puzzles to help with brainpower.

Also, husband passed in April, 2024. Lots of stress from caring for him, dealing with his passing, things breaking while trying to keep this farm. All of that makes a person more mentally out of sorts.

My thought is that you are subconsciously under a lot more stress with your husband not being well than what you realize. Strong people suppress those stressful thoughts, and we think we’re OK until we’re not; hence you forgot how to tie your shoes.

IMO, yours was a glitch brought on by the stress. Stay as focused as possible and you’ll be fine.😇😇

what you won't know is that Ronni lost her beloved son recently as well.. and Ron's been poorly.. and they've also recently moved house... and she works full time into the bargain... so everything that can cause strong people to breakdown has happened to Ronni in a very short time... it's a miracle you had just a 5 minute glich ((Ronni))

Yup. I'm only 60 but sometimes it happens to me too. I wouldn't get too stressed over it @Ronni. Things are gonna slow down and have glitches now and then as we age I guess. You could always switch to laceless sneakers.

I sometimes feel like my brain is like a phone app. Sometimes they just glitch out for a bit.

Thank you @hollydolly my sweet friend. ❤️

The thought of my son is ever-present, but I tend to overlook the many other things that I’ve dealt with since then….all that you mentioned and some other concerns as well. I’ll post about them eventually.

Thanks for the reminder … I guess I’m maintaining ok, considering.
 
I take all the supplements listed but I dropped Turmeric a couple of years ago. I'll have to start taking it again.

Oddly enough, I started forgetting words more often toward the years before I retired, 5 years ago. I would be presenting or in a meeting and the word just wouldn't come to me so I often substituted. I really think it was because I had so much on my mind and was constantly multi-tasking. @Ronni that is most likely what is happening with you.

I've had instances where I'm so focused on something I forget where I was in a process. I wash my hair, soap up and shave in the shower. There have been times when I've forgotten which step I've taken!
