Anyone have a strange relative? story about my uncle wally.

Mother's brother Paul. He was what they called a Carney, he worked traveling carnivals all across the US.
He was odd looking, had slightly greenish stubby teeth at some point. At first I was scared of him but I
watched him and that adoring look he had when he was near my Grandma, and I warmed up to him.
He was funny and had all these stories about things that happen, sneaky things Carney people do.

He came to visit with his girlfriend one weekend and Mom told me I had to let them sleep in my room.
First bedroom I didn't have to share, I was not happy but it had to be done.

I had school the next morning and forgot to get my books out of the room so I knocked and asked if
they could hand me my books. I heard "Come on in and get them"
I stepped past the door and they were in bed, she smiling at me and him on his stomach and there,
there at the foot of my bed his feet were sticking out
with Cowboy Boots still on!!!!

That room never received such a cleaning before as it did after they left.

We were at the cemetery one day, putting flags out for veterans when my wife said "We have one more". We beat back brush at the very edge of the cemetery to uncover a headstone. A veteran of WW1 and WW2, career military. Last name checked out. When I inquired, my wife said he was unmarried had no children....to speak of. That meant he had lots of children, both in and out of the family.

My grandmother was indeed strange. She never liked my mother. She came to visit and brought some banana pudding. My mother said she liked it, and she said "You can have the pudding and the bowl for a dollar". (She was serious.) When I was a tot she would put me on her lap and tell me how I would someday go away to war and be killed. She was dark!

Geez, what a mean individual 😢

Hmmm...some of my immediate family members might say it's me because of the psychic stuff I do. :D But what came to mind first are my twin cousins who never associate with the family. When my uncle (paternal side), their father died, they didn't interact with any of us at the wake, nor after the funeral. They didn't even have a repast, which is unusual in my culture and neck of the woods.

My (half) brother told me that we had a cousin who was a psychologist (also on the paternal side) and was kind of crazy himself. He owned a small island off of Australia. I didn't meet my half siblings and that part of my family until 1998 and that cousin was already out of the country.

We had an Uncle Noel, my dad's sister's husband. They came to stay at our house for a couple of weeks. They had our bedroom and my sisters, and I had to sleep in the back verandah. After the evening meal my father and Uncle Noel would go for a walk around the block. We asked if we could go with them, they said yes. My sisters and I walked in front of them and after a while
Uncle Noel let out the biggest f*rts we had ever heard. My dad used to belch a lot as well, what a cacophony of sounds. We
couldn't stop laughing. We weren't allowed to go anymore.

No wonder they took walks. They didn't want to subject y'all to the smells and sounds! :ROFLMAO:

My father's brother was a change-of-life baby, born 18 years after my dad. He was always thought of as strange. Had some peculiar ideas on what was to be eaten and what wasn't. Has a obsessive preoccupation with time and has numerous clocks he'd check every day for accuracy. Never was one for personal hygiene, either. Lived like a recluse and never went out or engaged other people. Didn't own a TV or radio. Spent most of his time reading, especially the Bible.

He was finally placed in assisted care when his apartment began to reek so that other tenants complained. On his second-to-last, birthday, a mutual friend of his and I had a small party for him (photo). The friend gave him a big yellow rose in a vase. He later phoned he and said that he had immediately thrown it out after we left because he was "afraid it would tip over." He passed away at age 77 in 2016.
