Afternoon Peeps of SF.... 🙋‍♀️

Horrible rainy grey day today... thankfully no wind tho'.....

I've just cooked bacon on the new electric stove... it tastes completely different to when it's cooked on gas..even the texture is different. I love bacon.. but I don't like it cooked like this..it makes it leathery and with a weird taste... :(

My new book arrived this morning ..which was recommended on here... ''Remember'' The science of memory and the art of forgetting'' ..so when I get time later I'll have a look at that...

Have the best Tuesday you can folks, whatever your plans may be.... 🌺🌼

I've always had an electric cooker, except in my various motorhomes which had gas cookers. When it comes to cooking bacon, he only differences I find are grilling vs. frying or in the cooking heat. The electric grill definitely takes longer to get to a good heat.

After spending $600 at Costco, came home without their bag of mixed nuts. I don’t know if they quit carrying them or were out. The fellow doing the demos said numerous people were looking for them.

There was an older woman wiping tears off her face as staff talked to her. She kept looking at her purse in the cart. Obviously someone had taken her wallet or phone. Why won’t people learn to keep their valuables safe. Not just women, men who have a wallet sticking out of their back pocket.

Costco must have security cameras, though folks who shoplift know how to keep their actions discrete.

Good morning to everyone. It is warmer today and tonight will be 36 degrees but still cold for here.

@hollydolly I used to cook bacon on my electric stove in the oven and it turned out tasting good. However, I cannot eat bacon anymore, so do not cook it. I have a small microwave safe plate to cook bacon in the microwave and I used it before, too. I hope you can fix it the way it tasted before.

I hope you are all well and have a nice day. :)

I've started a project in the garden. I had to dig up my favorite rose in the garden to demo the old deck. The deck under the gazebo was reinforced but the rose in the planter between it and the driveway had to go. So it has buds on it now and I want it in the ground as soon as possible. I've put a hold at our local tool lending library on a chipping hammer/shovel to help me dig out a good planting hole for it. I've started by clearing the decomposed granite that had been spread in the area after the construction was done and built a frame to give a slightly raised bed.

The old bench is sitting where it will go back.

I'm going to try cooking it in the microwave next time, Rae... because the taste of that was horrible ..dry, and it generally didn't even look cooked even tho' it was.

Oh I wouldn't even dream of grilling on an electric cooker... it would cost a fortune by the time it got hot ... I'd just do it in the Airfryer instead if I couldn't fry it... but in all honesty this is a huge difference in taste, between the gas and electric, I can't stress it more. It' enough that if I'd only ever eaten bacon cooked on an electric stove I would never have eaten again...

Just found this on AI

Bacon fried on an electric stove often tastes worse than on a gas stove primarily due to
differences in heat responsiveness, temperature consistency, and the way heat is transferred. While "heat is heat" in terms of cooking, the mechanics of electric stoves often lead to overcooking, uneven texture, and improper rendering of fat.

Poor Fat Rendering and Texture Issues
  • Chewy or Rubbery Bacon: Because electric stoves can have inconsistent heat, the bacon is often cooked too quickly. If the pan is too hot initially, the fat doesn't have time to properly render (melt out) before the meat burns, resulting in a rubbery texture.
  • Uneven Cooking: Electric coils often create a distinct coil-shaped, uneven heating pattern, leading to some spots being burnt while others are barely cooked.

11:30am PST Tuesday now. Will start doing 2 loads of laundry and then drive the mile to Trader Joe's to stockpile a few cups of their 99 cent strawberry vanilla yogurts, gallon of milk, a section of aged Gouda cheese, and a couple frozen packages of their chicken burrito bowls that I'll highly recommend.

Rather a sad day here.

Our nephew age 56 passed way yesterday.
He had been told couple of years ago to stop drinking whiskey.
It was destroying his liver.

His mental health seemed to have been effected also.

There will be a small home several at a later date.
So sorry for the loss of your nephew...addiction is a terrible thing. May he R.I.P ....

Right it's been a steadily busy day...with some respites...

i got all the laundry washed , dried and put away within 2 hours, while I cooked and ate dinner..

Aren't we all glad we don't have to scrub clothes like our mother or grandmothers did on a Washboard with a bar of soap and an old mangle ?

I really wish my mum had been alive to see it all.... it's hearbreaking to think that she would have been 90 years old now, the same age as some of our dear friends on the forum, and younger than some of my neighbours .. but she died in her 30's... and missed all the technology. I know she would have absolutely loved the idea of the laundry being done at the press of button, while she ate dinner..or cleaned a room. or had a sleep ....

I wonder what our kids will be saying when they get to our ages and we're gone... what new things will they be saying..Dad or Mum would have loved this..!

Hollydolly, I've read 2 of Lisa Genova's books, both terrific, her 1st novel' Still Alice' , story of a 50 yr old Harvard Univ professor who has early onset Alzheimers. The movie version starred Julie Anne Moore, she won Best Actress Oscar 'Every Note Played' about a concert pianist who is diagnosed with ALS, his ex-wife becomes his care giver The author is a neuroscientist Sue

Thanks for that Sue.....Yes I'm on page 8 now.. and she's already stated that she wrote ''Still Alice' and that's she's a Neuroscientist...the author not Alice.....I'm just reading a little bit at a time in between doing other things.. !

We had a film some years ago which sounds similar which was about noted british Author & Philosopher Iris Murdoch.. who was diagnosed with Alzheimers just after she finished her last book... she died within 3 years of diagnosis... in 1999

Judi Dench played her in the film ''Iris''..going from a young woman to the 76 year old with dementia..

Gauged prices, monster trucks and killer ducks. What's next?

Of course, our area is hosting the NFL Superbowl game next 3:30pm PST Sunday, drawing audiences and media people and attention from across the world with a list of events from here in the San Jose area up through San Francisco, 55 miles to our north. One of the venues is at the below, I may attend this evening with a free to attend live Hispanic jazz band playing with more live music events on Friday and Saturday. They have two indoor live music stages and one outdoor stage for afternoon events. I like dancing at the outdoor stage because there is a lot of open space room with people of all ages A to Z about to cross-pollinate my art with.
