Did you ever get notes written like this?

When my daughters were very young and couldn't read, I would leave notes on the table for my wife to read when she came home.

One day I left this provocative note on the kitchen table:

"Hey Hon, I'll catch you later for a Boff!"

My elderly Mother came over for a visit that day (I had forgotten about the note)...she read it and said,

"Patrick, what's a Boff??"

My face turned purple but I quickly recovered and stated with conviction..."Oh! Er...a Boff is slang for a coffee. I want to meet her for a coffee later today!" :)

Mother: "Oh, I see."

(Phew! That was close! But in hindsight it was quite funny!)

I think that Mom just wanted to watch you squirm. 😉🤭😂

My mother left notes for me in her refrigerator. I was an adult and didn't live at home. But somehow she knew that when I entered her house, the first thing I did was open the fridge. I just surveyed the contents -- all nutritious food, so I was disappointed every time.

She didn't leave notes when I was living at home. She was usually there. Even when she got a full-time job, she just gave orders before we left for school.

When my daughter was quite young, her Art teacher sent a note home to me advising me that she had missed class and I was to give a reason as to why and send back the note to the teacher.

So I wrote...

"I'm sorry my daughter missed class the other day. But that's okay, the other kids will catch up."

It was very fitting as my young daughter was a wonderful little Artist. I never heard back from that teacher, but I'm quite sure I gave her a chuckle or two. :)

lol!
No! Mom was quite elderly and a little naive at that time. She really had no idea what I meant when I wrote the word 'Boff.' I'm just thankful I used that fun sort of word to describe hanky-panky...instead of a more obvious word.
I've never heard that term/expression, either.. figured it out from your previous post..

But would it have been funny- or not- if your mother took your explanation and started using it herself? 😮🤣🤣🤣🤣
