My Journey to Polytheism

(I'll try to keep it as brief as possible, so much I want to say)

Like many, I grew up in a Christian family and was taught the Monotheism Belief.
This stayed with me though my younger years.

My first doubts of this idea started innocently enough, thanks to the TV and Movie Westerns I watched in the 50's.
I heard that the Native American cultures believed in many 'Gods' or 'Spirits'.
I was taught they were 'Pagens' and were soon 'instructed' to the 'True' belief.

OK, I filed this away with the other things I knew about Greek and Roman Gods, the ones we knew about as kids.

In the early 60's, my family moved to Hawaii and once again found many cultures with Polytheism Beliefs.
Many of my friend's families were from these cultures. They seemed normal families and not the 'Pagens'
I had been taught by my family.

During my military career, I was fortunate to be able to visit many European countries, being homebased in the UK.

The next part is hard to explain.

While visiting sites in Norway and Sweden, I felt a 'coming together' of many of the Thoughts I'd had my whole life.

To sum things up, for me, Polytheism is like a story.
Deities are everywhere and are weaving their influences in and out of MY life.
Never saw the harm in honoring them or believing they had Power.

I'm used to others shaking their heads at my Beliefs, even at times, my own family.

Be it Monotheism or Polytheism, whatever gives you some Inner-Peace, seems to be a good thing.

I'm doing somewhat better today regarding the pinched nerve. I have an appointment in a few days with a chiropractor.

I sit and gaze at my framed pictures of Suzy. I still talk to her and it gives me some comfort. I am way too fatigued all the time to get another dog. It's also too expensive going to Vets even when you have insurance. So what I also enjoy is seeing all the dogs on Facebook. I love dogs. They are wonderful!!

I'm trying to keep up with medical appointments. My PCP has referred me to some. I found out that I can use Lyft through my insurance provider. I used it once so far and they got me there on time.

It will be nice when I can walk ok again. I am going to use my cane for my next appointment. My legs are very weak so I have to hold onto something.

I'm sorry I just realized I posted this in the wrong thread. I don't understand how I did that.

I’m really glad to read that you made an appointment with a chiropractor . You are headed in the right direction. I wish you the best Ruthanne and I’m sure Medusa will quickly forgive you for posting in the wrong thread.

Actually the term Pagan is a more modern term and over the years the definition has changed.
In Christ's day they did not call people Pagan.....Mostly Gentile. Some one that worships gods different than Judeo-Christian Gods.
Then you got Wicca.
Islam-Muslim beliefs are a corruption of the Jewish beliefs that occurred around the 7th century AD.
The Quran is a rewriting of the Hebrew Bible.
When the Apostle Paul started converting "Pagans" to Christianity the changed their religious beliefs but retained their Pagan culture and Christianized their holy-day-Holidays. Our wedding ceremonies come from the Gentile-Christians that Paul converted. So too our Sunday worship and Christmas and Easter from the 4th century Ecumenical Councils.
Evergreens play a big role in Pagan customs but Santa Claus and the Christmas tree
The custom was developed by Protestant Christians who brought decorated trees into their
homes, and it was Martin Luther who is credited with first adding lighted candles to an evergreen tree in the 16th century. The Christmas tree became a prominent part of the holiday's festivities in Germany by the 19th century and was popularized in Britain by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in the 1840s. The tradition spread to the United States in the 1820s, and by the 1870s, Christmas trees were a firmly established tradition in American homes.
