Are you an Instruction Reader?

A very thoughtful friend of mine living in another state was on a kick for awhile of buying things on Amazon or Temo or whichever other online sites (I don’t shop online) and having sent to me… things she thought I could use. Well, as well-intentioned as she was being, I had to ask her to stop. We’ve known each other for over 50 years so that wasn’t as awkward as it may seem.

But, the things she bought and sent me were new-fangled gadgets that required reading instructions… I don’t read instructions. If I can’t figure something out, I don’t want it. And, as to teaching an old dog new tricks, again, if I can’t figure it out, forget it! And, if I haven’t needed that item in 72 years, I don’t need it now. Anyone else like that?

Thankfully our two tech savvy sons will set up any new device requiring set up thru phone apps.
Once set up the rest is easy. When it comes to DIY projects some DIY projects I've Googled "how to" videos. Those beat struggling to figure out some of the tricky aspects of what is being worked on.

You still have instructions to assemble furniture or other things? Here most of them are only pictograms. It seems that more and more people are incapable of reading. The headmaster of a German senior high school told me shortly after the year 2000 that in his opinion most people are "functional analphabets" (only capable of understanding pictograms).

I'll look at instructions if something needs to be assembled but with electronics I tend to jump into it and hope I can figure it out. Sometimes it takes longer to figure things out than it should......

I purchaced a set of JBL headphones probably six weekes ago so I could wear them at the gym. Great sound but I was annoyed because every time I would reposition them on my head I would stop the music, the volume and pause button are under the right side ear muff and I kept hitting that pause button, even being extra careful. Well just this morning I realized the headphones also have a "tap to pause" function, lite tap to the right head phone pauses the sound, tap again to restart. All this time I thought I was accidently hitting the pause button, I was actually tapping the outer shell.

Who knew? Probably EVERYBODY that read the damn instructions!

Yeah, I’ve had similar situations. I find I’m sometimes just too stubborn for my own good!

I think it might be more about we don't read Chinese. :ROFLMAO:
