Pictures From My Smart Bird Feeder

Found the yellow finches. :) They are really starting to turn color now. It's a bit hard to see because they are in the sun in this video. I like the way they are chatting to each other.

Here, one of the yellow finches is on the thistle feeder (which we put up to attract them, specifically) and I think they are still talking as one is on the seed feeder as well.

Always nice to see lady cardinal. :)

And not so nice to see this lady. :/ She's begun bringing friends with her (not on this video) and I'm truly starting to worry about the weight capacity of the seed tray.

Our little junco friend.

I swear this starling is dancing in the seeds right now.

I wonder what they're looking at.

I am very much enjoying all the bird photos and videos @Medusa and @Kaila 🤠

Setting our entertainment aside, you are both performing a highly valuable service to our songbirds. I also feed them, but have noticed a big decline from last year. Even the a big decline in the grackles and cowbirds:

Bird declines are accelerating across America's farming ...
A Feb. 2026 study in Science reveals that US bird populations are declining at an accelerating rate due to high-intensity agriculture and climate-driven warming. Research covering 1987–2021 shows a ~15% drop in total bird abundance per route, with sharpest declines in the Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, and California. “

I had written to the Tennessee ornithological Society regarding the late arrival of my purple Martins. She also said there has been a very large decline in our bird population. And while I saw three pair of purple martins the other day, I’m not sure that they’ve come back to stay.

You ladies keep doing what you’re doing because every little bit helps to save these birds.

They're discussing that pigeon that's out of camera shot and hoping he doesn't bring his fat butt to the feeder and eat all the seeds. 😁

I'm so glad you're here and enjoying the pictures and videos.

Thank you for this information, sad as it is. :( It's good to be aware of.

Thank you ladies for sharing your wonderful photos. It’s lovely having a thread dedicated to these beautiful birds.
You too, Patty. You keep a bird feeder too, I know. 🥰

We only keep a suet feeder. We used to feed the birds and would get a lot of different varieties. Our biggest problem was that we were attracting mice too and they get in our house attic. We could hear them scratching at the walls. I miss the birds but do not miss the mice.

Suet feeders attract such pretty birds. :)

Mice freak me out too. There was one scratching at my bedroom wall, adjacent to the utility room where the heating unit is housed for a few nights. I finally remembered to tell husband and he and son sprayed some repellent into the walls and around. We have a terrible mouse problem in this area. Some of the businesses (mostly doctor's offices) have those outside catch boxes attached to their outer walls when it's "mouse season." (Went off on a bit of a mouse tangent there. Ha.)

Thank you for adding some more pics and videos Medusa. The close up of the woodpecker and female cardinal are priceless.
This time while viewing I had my earphone in so could hear everything really well. It sure put a smile on my face..
