Doesn’t anybody pay attention?

I do not think that all provinces are equal in regards to our health care system. I am surprised that you do not pay on a sliding scale for a visit from the PSW. You were very fortunate , a very positive outcome but I think you paint too rosy a picture of Canada‘s heath care system. I live in BC, I know of 2 people who’ve had to go to another province for their surgery and they have to pay for it, because our wait times are too long.
I've talked to people I've met online over many years from Canada and it is too rosy of a picture from what I've heard. Not that the US system isn't a mess because it is in its own way as well.

I've heard of wait times in CN that are ridiculous and of care that can't be accessed at all or in time in Canada, not to mention driving how far to receive such care.

The entire health care thing, is such a huge subject, in the US alone, and in the world even more so. Tons of side avenues that can be taken with talking of it.

It needs to be fixed in both places if you ask me... Do I believe that will happen? Probably not in our time for sure.

I guess you have missed the fact that this forum has a fair number of Canadian members ? Here is a simple question for you to ask here...........How many Canadians would be willing to switch to the US model of medical care ? Stand by for an overwhelmingly NEGATIVE response.

A second question that you might ask is......How many Americans are forced into bankruptcy, each year, due to medical costs? The answer would be ...in the thousands. Now, ask the Canadians about their actual experience with the Canadian system? JIMB>

I'm not attacking anyone, I'm saying it isn't as perfect or rosy as some make it sound. I've talked back and forth with Canadians on it.

By the way, we have state insurance if anyone is low income or lost their job due to health. The hospital and clinic systems can also be applied for for help with bills. Or to not pay any out of pocket after insurance.

I've been out of work for about a year and a half and after keeping my work insurance for awhile I finally had to go on state insurance. I had some mounting bills out of pocket and applied for the financial help through the health care system here and guess what? All forgiven. I don't owe. TWO TIMES now. Now IF I have to go to someone outside the system, that's not the case, but even some of them forgive the out of pocket IF the major system already approved one.

Those who file bankruptcy should have explored these options first.

Ours isn't all as bad as it is cracked up to be either, but not rosy either. I'm saying both have their pros and cons. And I've talked with people back and forth on it, not just in Canada but other countries as well. Some is better in each place and some is worse.

And yes, I'm sure there are likely many Canadians here as well as many US people and I've seen a fair amount from the UK as well.

Have you ever seen the news on people in some countries who beg and try to get their children treated here as all else that can be tried under their system has been and they won't do what they will do here? Because it isn't paid for under their system? We have some TOP NOTCH places as well. I've been treated at Mayo in Rochester and BOY did it impress me.

Things keep changing and it's not all good though. I'm not going to paint all our systems as rosy. But yours isn't either. That's all I was saying. I wasn't knocking you nor the country. I've never met a Canadian I've not liked and I've met a TON of great Canadians.

Please stop pitting Canada and the US against each other. That you create and then seize every opportunity to rub American SFer's noses in the shortcomings of our health care system says more about you than about either country's medical plans.

Few Americans would argue against our health care needing drastic change. We really don't need you to point that out. Repeatedly.

p.s. If the Canadian system was indeed all that and a bag of chips, 70-75% of Canadians wouldn't also have private health insurance. My sister and her family included.

I'm interested in learning about other countries but I have no interest in it in some competitive way. Despite the issues, we still have some of the best hospitals here in the world. And many other things that are good, but it certainly isn't all good.

Nor is Canada's system.

I watch a Canadian woman's channel. It's kind of a life channel. Making her kids school lunches, what she makes for dinner and other things... Her kids have had a ton of days called off this winter due to weather, weekly almost so missing a day a week at minimum. Sometimes two.

Anyhow on some of those days, one of the kids might have had a medical or dental or eye appt already scheduled. I wondered why she'd travel with them and keep that appointment if the weather was bad enough school was canceled for them. She did answer me. Oh and why they had to travel so far for those appts. She answered me. Here, I'd have rescheduled the appt. in bad weather but not there...

She's hardly the first person I've talked with from Canada either. My state borders Canada, I've met tons of Canadians, all very nice.

Anyhow, it isn't a competition to me. Every country has their problems, especially these days. We do. And they do as well.

You are absolutely right. Every country has their own problems including Canada. We shouldn’t be pinpointing other country’s downfalls. It’s not nice.

To go back to your original problem, about not digesting your food,
regardless of any medication that you are taking, you need to chew
the food properly, when I was a small boy, yes I was once, a teacher
told me and the rest of the class, that in order to get the digestion
process working properly, we had to chew every mouthful, 60 times,
in order to get the saliva, into the food, to start the digestion process,
I always thought that the, "Chew 60 times", was a bit of an overkill, but
you really do need to get lots of saliva into the food.

Good luck.

Mike.

Agree entirely. I like to discuss to see our differences and see what could be improved or what is good but other than for that reason, no interest in arguing or knocking anyone from anywhere or the country itself. Just as to what we would hope would change, what is good, what is bad, and so on. And one can't compare apples to oranges easily either. Their prices are higher than ours (even before tariffs) but their incomes and services differ for instance. One needs a fuller picture to even understand other countries.

America is knocked a lot plus everything is quite open as to most things and put out there. Not the case with some other countries. Or not nearly as much.

Anyhow, I know a lot more know than I did years ago and that comes from talking to people from everywhere. Which I very much enjoy doing. If it's not some competition or taken wrong.
