I guess you have missed the fact that this forum has a fair number of Canadian members ? Here is a simple question for you to ask here...........How many Canadians would be willing to switch to the US model of medical care ? Stand by for an overwhelmingly NEGATIVE response.
A second question that you might ask is......How many Americans are forced into bankruptcy, each year, due to medical costs? The answer would be ...in the thousands. Now, ask the Canadians about their actual experience with the Canadian system? JIMB>
I'm not attacking anyone, I'm saying it isn't as perfect or rosy as some make it sound. I've talked back and forth with Canadians on it.
By the way, we have state insurance if anyone is low income or lost their job due to health. The hospital and clinic systems can also be applied for for help with bills. Or to not pay any out of pocket after insurance.
I've been out of work for about a year and a half and after keeping my work insurance for awhile I finally had to go on state insurance. I had some mounting bills out of pocket and applied for the financial help through the health care system here and guess what? All forgiven. I don't owe. TWO TIMES now. Now IF I have to go to someone outside the system, that's not the case, but even some of them forgive the out of pocket IF the major system already approved one.
Those who file bankruptcy should have explored these options first.
Ours isn't all as bad as it is cracked up to be either, but not rosy either. I'm saying both have their pros and cons. And I've talked with people back and forth on it, not just in Canada but other countries as well. Some is better in each place and some is worse.
And yes, I'm sure there are likely many Canadians here as well as many US people and I've seen a fair amount from the UK as well.
Have you ever seen the news on people in some countries who beg and try to get their children treated here as all else that can be tried under their system has been and they won't do what they will do here? Because it isn't paid for under their system? We have some TOP NOTCH places as well. I've been treated at Mayo in Rochester and BOY did it impress me.
Things keep changing and it's not all good though. I'm not going to paint all our systems as rosy. But yours isn't either. That's all I was saying. I wasn't knocking you nor the country. I've never met a Canadian I've not liked and I've met a TON of great Canadians.
