Lazy, phone day. I called a good friend to make sure she was alright because I saw the news about a massive fire in her town; we were on the phone for over an hour and a half. Turns out they could see the massive flames and smoke from her street, but thank God the fire didn't spread to there. I also had brief conversations with my oldest and middle grandsons. I had to call Chewy because there were issues with two of my orders. The treats container came open and treats were spilling out of the box in the one we got today The order goes to my son's job, so he had to tape the box before bringing it home. Chewy always makes it right.

I watched a couple of things on T.V. and following my daily routine, I played games on my phone that keep the cobwebs out of my brain.
This is the picture my friend sent of the fire, taken from her block.

I've been trying to figure out when to do a road trip about 140 miles north but at this time of spring, northwesterly winds often blow for weeks with any changes usually heavy chilly marine fog. Current forecasts have me pessimistic.

Instead, at short notice, am thinking of spending what looks like will cost me $170 in gasoline going a lot further up into some familiar north coast redwood park areas I last visited eleven years ago in 2015 where the inland areas are well protected from breezy ocean shore areas. Also, rhododendron, trillium, and other redwood species bloom in May while the temperate rain forest has myriad interesting intimate landscape features to be absorbed by. And with my new a6700, with Focus Bracket mode I can crank through a lot of subjects in seconds that used to be difficult. Also, love camping at some of the campgrounds.

Good morning peeps of SF.., 🌻

It's a much cooler day today, and semi sunny.....

I dropped my car off at the garage and got a bus back.. and no i;m home for a short time, until I have to get an uber to take me to the hospital for some blood tests.. then come back again.. and wait for the call to go and fetch my car if it passes it's MOT..fingers crossed it does. There's no reason why it shouldn't but .. these garages often ''find'' a problem... especially when it's a lone woman whose dropped the car off... so we'll see...🚙

It's such an awkward day ..but there was no putting either the hospital dates.. or wait another 6 weeks... nor could I not have the car MOT'd because it's illegal to drive without an MOT...so just a bit of an awakward day, having to take various public transports back and forth..

have the best day you can folks... 🌸🌺

After being dropped off by the Gates van at local UPS store to buy stamps yesterday morning, I did walk home
It was a bit breezy, sunny & warm. It took me 40 min, this was one of the regular walking routes I used to do before I moved here. I was tired when I got home, didn't do much rest of day
On my early walk at 6:50, it was cloudy, breezy temps was 58 as I went around the building complex once before breakfast
This morning at 11 go to monthly resident council meeting where we'll hear from chairs of different committees, find out when new residents are moving in, ck out today's lunch/dinner menu. The rest of my day, read yesterday& today's NYT,tackle both crossword puzzle ,hope to get another walk in before the rain comes
Everybody have a good day

Are you ready for a good news story ?...:D🌺

When I got in the car to go for the MOT this morning... I had just driven a few yards and knew something was wrong. I stopped , got out and found I had a flat tyre.. There was a big screw right in the tyre..in the tread.. so the tyre was beyond inflating.

I didn't know what to do because I knew had to be back for the hosptial appointment of which I'd waited 6 weeks, so i couldn't miss it.. and calling the AA would mean a wait of at least an hour and potentially up to 4 hours.. so I was beginning to wonder what on earth to do

The postman came by in his van,🚘 and asked what's wrong..I tell him... he asks if I have a spare tyre, I concur, and he said right..get the tyre out , the locking wheel nut key, and the jack... and he jumped out of his van, and changed my tyre for me! seriously..can you believe it?

The spare tyre was one of those temporary types where you can't drive faster than 30mph on it... but that was good enough to get me to the Test centre in town.. and ask them to either fix or replace the tyre with a new one.. ,, and I was able to get back on a bus ( free ticket)... and home, and changed and back on a bus to get to the hospital for my tests.. which I've done now , and got a bus back again... I've not been on as many buses for decades lol..

The amusing thing was as I stepped off the bus.. at the end of my road.. the same postman was just coming past again in his van... so i was able to tell him what had occured after.. I told him I owe him big time..

I just have to wait now for a call from the test centre and hope the car has passed...

That fire is so scary. Unfortunately it is the same here with new fires daily. Some are in our area but not near our home. More rain this weekend, so fingers crossed.

@hollydolly you do have a busy day and a lot going on with your car and hospital visit. Take care and hope all goes well. 🤗

Everyone have a good day.:)

In California, we need to have periodic smog checks on our vehicles by state-licensed test sites with specialized equipment. These sites cannot also be repair shops, so there's no chance of them "finding" problems.

The results (pass or fail) are automatically transmitted to the CA Department of Motor Vehicles by the testing equipment, so no fudging either way.

I sure do remember the days when garages did the checks and "found" problems they were happy to "repair," and am glad they're long gone.

yes the garage has just rung, I was getting a bit concerned because they close at 5pm.. and it was 4.40pm before they rang.. but they said that the car passed..but technically it's failed because of the tyre, and they have had to order a tyre, which won't arrive until tomorrow morning. They said the car passed with flying colours but of course not with that tyre, so as soon as the new tyre arrives and they fit it.. I can collect the car..

So I can get my outdoor clothes off finally, and into my comfies and go and make dinner now.. knowing I don't have to go out again today...

Are you updating the software or the hardware?

Well, my main PC for browsing the net is now 15 years old. I've managed to hold it together all that time, but it needs tender loving care because if not it can throw hissy fits. Of course, one might ask why I don't simply junk it and employ a different computer - but it's become something if personal pride that I've had this machine running, 24/7, for the last decades and a half.

Which is not to say it doesn't get rebooted/updated etc. It's a sick, troubled thing, but it's MY sick troubled thing. If you power it down, it's one heck of as lot of trouble to get it to power back on. The motherboard wants to retire. :D

Wow, that is an accomplishment to keep it going for that long. Our 1950 Ford 8n was a similar labor of "love". :)

Have you looked into the newer stuff like tablets? If you have a fast WiFi, it might be interesting to upgrade.?

our MOT tests is very comprehensive.. so it has to be a garage that does it.... because also they are usually the ones who have to repair the cars because it's illegal to take the car back out on the road if it's failed it's MOT..

Sure. My wife wouldn't go near this old piece of junk. She has her tablet and uses it every day. In fact, I have a tablet to my left - but I don't use it. I do have the fastest internet it's possible for me to have here at the moment at 1gb fiber. I don't need that much, but it makes me feel more manly. :D

Last week I was throwing out stuff from one of my outhouses.

A big cardboard box with lampshades I've been meaning to chuck out I emptied, because a neighbour asked me for some of the lampshades. At the bottom of the box I found a set of grimy antimacassars, they were probably in the box as padding for something I bought on ebay.
I remembered my grannie having these sort of things on her armchairs and settees when I was a young sprout.
So when the lovely lady came for the lampshades I showed her the antimacassars and her eyes lit up.
She asked me if she could clean them up for me (apparently the lace fabric needs to be cleaned in some careful way) and I told her she could have them.

She called me over to her house earlier and proudly showed me the antimacassars on her 3 piece suite, they looked stunning.

I'm going back over ther shortly for a special dinner she's preparing. Yum yum, this is what I call a result. 😊
