Wednesday 5/13/2026 8:53am PDT. Quiet day at home continuing HTML coding for image work along the North Coast last week. May also do laundry today or Friday? Tomorrow, Thursday, is an uncommon sunny, low breeze day along ocean shores. So may drive from dawn, the 70 miles north through San Francisco, across the Golden Gate Bridge, to the Highway 1 Marin Headlands in the Golden Gate National Recreational Area and explore beach areas for close-up photography at Muir Beach and Rodeo Beach that have colorful surf smoothed melange geology stones.

Then in the mid afternoon, will drive to Hawk Hill for views of San Francisco behind the Golden Gate Bridge before driving home back south. Then this weekend after another quiet day Friday, will be especially lively. Nearby is a free multi-stage multi-band, music event with huge crowds, that I expect to do plenty of my running man shuffle dancing at.

You're lucky to live in an area where there's so much to do.

I had a appointment yesterday near my daughter's town so I went over and celebrated my Grand daughter's birthday.
We had a lovely tea party which is what the girls are into right now and it was great fun.
I'm going back Saturday to watch the kids while my daughter and son in law go out.
It's going to be a beautiful day today!

What I miss the most about city living:
1) The Symphony. Even the best recording can't compare to an in person performance.
2) Theater, including opera, plays, dance.
3) Boutique shops.
4) Good restaurants.

What I don't miss about city living:
1) Crowds.
2) Traffic.
3) Crime.
4) Noise.
5) Pollution.
Those would be both of my lists, too, @GoodEnuff, exactly. I won't go into detail because I'm sure you (and everyone else) know what I mean.

I particularly miss in-person performances. I usually go to the Met Opera live broadcasts at the local theater, and I'm very grateful for those, but I'd loooove to actually get dressed up and attend an opera in person. And I haven't been to a real ballet (other than small local productions, and I do enjoy those) in more than a decade.

yep same...I was born and raised in the city... and I miss the whole vibe of it... the trouble is now..if I go into London for the day, I feel absolutely cleansed when i get bak into the countryside... but that might feel different if I'm living there I don't know...However the crime levels do concern me particularly now I'm old.. I don't want to feel afraid to go out as I age... into my 80's maybe ..

However by the same token if I don't find something else to do soon, I'll be old before my time, so I'm also thinking of smaller cities that are quieter, than London.. ..but that flat is beautiful so I;m sorely tempted ...

Morning all, another cloudy,on/off rain in today's forecast, temps in the 50's
On early walk at 6:50, temp was 48 as I walked behind 3 building driveways, walked back down the street around our building complex before breakfast
My plans today ck the lunch/dinner menu, read today''s NYT, my book. I hope to get another walk in mid morning/afternoon if its not raining. If it is, I'll walk our long hallway for exercise My weekly dinner get together with the guys in the dining room tonight at 5:30,good way to catch up
After dinner tackle todays' NYT crossword puzzle, I've never finished a Thurs puzzle
Everybody have a good day

Good afternoon peeps of SF.... 🌺 ..it's sunny now.☀️. after a morning of rain...

I'm going to try and connect the new Keyboard again.. I had no luck with it the other day. It should just automatically connect because it's Bluetooth.. but it just wouldn't.. but this Logitech keyboard missing so many letters is driving me insane, it particularly doesn't want to type C's.. and I never knew I used so many C's in an average post... it makes my posts look like a drunk has written them..😖. and thank you for all of you who have read them , understood them, and were too polite to say anything..

The fact my spell correct is not working makes things even worse

I'll have another try with it later..

have the best day you can folks... 🌼🌷

@hollydolly, I'm envious that you are close enough to a big city to get there fairly easily. I wish I were closer to one, but the nearest one to me is about an 8-hour drive. I really am stuck in the middle of nowhere. When we lived in Nevada we were about 3.5–4 hours from Salt Lake City, so it was a little more tolerable.

I absolutely understand you..... the trouble is despite the fact the city centre with all the theatres is just 20 miles from me.. the traffic here is horrendous so it's a horrible drive and can often take 2 hours to get there...

I can take the train.. but that also means getting off the overland train..and taking tubes ( subways)... to get to wherever I need to go... now these subways are deep underground, so it also means using endless escalators..

and long tunnel walks before emerging from the darkness... so all of that..is fairly exhausting now at this age.. and that's before I get to my destination

I regualrly drive into North London that' s busy enough... and beginning to get a little bit too busy for me now..

This is why I am considering actually moving into the city... so I have all these things just a tube ride away :)

I completely understand. Back when we lived in Virginia—not even DC proper—the traffic had gotten horrific by 2003. It would take 45 minutes to get to the interstate about 0.25 m (~0.40 km) away. You could literally walk faster! Shortly after that, we moved.

The escalator image you shared brought back a funny memory. I once had an interview at USA Today and was worried I'd be late. I ran up the entire escalator at Rosslyn, which is the second-longest continuous escalator in North America (https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/rosslyn-metro-escalator). (Needless to say, I was much younger, and in better shape, back then. 🤣) I've never huffed and puffed so hard in my life!

yes I've run up the escalator before as well.. grief it's sore on the knees lol.. the steps on those escalators are so deep. I couldn't run up one now..

The other issues is that sometimes in some tube stations, because they're so old... built in the mid 1800's...( the london underground is the oldest in the world)...some have no lifts so when the escalators are out of order the only choice is the stairs and a a few have over 300 stairs to climb
