@IrishEyes , that's alotta squirrels, tree squirrels aren't they? Our apple and apricot trees have fruit started, once the squirrels notice they'll be swarming.

Yes Gray Squirrels. My yard has the most Oak trees and tons of acorns fall off each fall that is why they were up here digging
like mad. I have seen up to 6 before but there were 12 out there, 2 behind the tree you can't see. Bumper crop of babies this year.
Nearly half those out there are this spring's babies.
I've had to eat them years ago with all types of wildlife but not like chicken no! LOL
Shoelaces is more like it with gravy sauce.

Oh yum.
Here in the High Desert they are all ground squirrels, full of disease and parasites. I wish there was a natural predator that would eat them. I think the hawks and other raptors might eat them, there's just not enough birds of prey around here. The Ravens love squirrel, but they don't hunt them, just clean up the road kill.

When I was a child my relatives killed and served squirrels, dear meat and other nasty things.
To me squirrels tasted bad, and they left a horrible after taste in my mouth. no where near chicken. I would not eat them.
I always loved animals so I would not eat the meat.

Squirrels rule! Or at least think they do in your yard. 
The fence is my area for my dog, squirrels are outside of it. Those numbers will thin down once the younger ones go off during mating season.
This is the most I have seen since I moved here. We had an extreme amount of acorns last fall.

We were in the hot tub the other day when this tiny little animal comes bouncing across the patio, hops on on the retaining wall, and stops for a few seconds. I thought it was chipmunk from a distance (no glasses) but upon further review it was a baby mink. It darted off into the yard and began going down the various ground squirrel burrows. Happy Hunting!!!Oh yum.
Fox, coyotes, and bears and others have ground squirrel on the menu as well.

We do have a lot of squirrels but have a lot of land so the a spread out. Our problem this year is wood chucks. There is a new family of mom and 4 offspring living under the chicken coup, and another family moved in next door to the goat shed. Also a couple new families moved in under our garage.
We decided to shoot and eat one of the mamas. I used a 22 rifle and hit her with one shot, and killed her with a close shot. We have her skinned ( we save and preserve the hides of what we eat when possible). She's in the fridge and we will make ground hog stew soon.

the yard between my back yard and neighbors yard I mow is all full of mole hills this year. @Paco Dennis such is life in rural Missouri, I totally understand. I've eaten many things my first moving to Mo.
and thank goodness it was there to be hunted. Some was good, some not so much. Of all the things I have trouble
eating to this day is Catfish, pond catfish tastes like mud. Now I can't get that out of my memory no matter stream or
river caught.

Last year we had feral cats thinning them out but I kind of think a pellet gun took care of the cats as the Animal Shelter
only takes feral cats at the Kill Shelter because they are not human friendly. You have to catch them and take them -2 hour drive.
I don't own a pellet gun so was not me

Since we had to have one of our big oaks cut down last year, I've seen fewer squirrels. I think they had an apartment building up there. It used to be that I could see as many as twelve squirrels in the front yard at one time. Of course, it didn't help that I would throw stale crackers and cereal out for them on a regular basis.
Now, I'll see two or three at a time.
