Well I'm sad to say it's now 1.30am... and instead of getting cooler here in this office room despite 2 fans being on constantly... it's now HOTTER than it was at 9pm.... 🥵 31.c... or 88 deg f...

It was Friday when we made the 7 hour drive to Mammoth Campground near the NW entrance to Yellowstone. We got a preferred site, but there are a few better. Me and the wife quickly set up camp and relaxed till 8pm when we crashed, since it was kinda cold and blustery out side.

Here's our bear proof food box which I use as a cooking station. It makes it convenient to store the stove and cooking equipment since it must be put away before leaving camp. Everything basically has to be inside a vehicle or this box in an effort to minimize human - bear encounters.

We found these Larkspur on a little walk near camp.

This is a decent antelope buck.

Here is me and my crew at Slough Ck, one of my favorite places. We'll be back to close it down for the 3rd year in a row in mid-October. My daughter is very afraid of bears so the short hike into Slough was a challenge for her. We had spray and firearms with us.

Our daughter and her boyfriend were able to join us. I put them up at the cabins in nearby Mammoth Hot Springs. I didn't want to make them deal w camping since they only had the 3 day weekend to get there and back home.

We had a good time, not really getting up to see the major wolf activity, but we did see:
Grizzlies
Black bears including a beautiful cinnamon phase
Bison w calves aka "red dogs"
Moose
Elk some spotted 3-4 miles away w spotting scopes, elk calves
Mtn Goats (no kids seen)
Antelope
Coyote
Sandhill cranes w a baby
Deer

Young Kyle did the driving on Saturday and Sunday thankfully saving me from that ordeal. One can not believe how self-absorbed, unaware, and disrespectful of others people are until they experience the holiday weekend at YS.

Unfortunately we had to end the trip a day early since the lock on the camper broke, which we later found was known to be defective. We were unable to get in the camper which meant we had no place to sleep and no food. My wife's hearing aid charging station was inside as well. That meant driving home yesterday in some awful traffic inside the park, instead of today.

The round trip was 725 miles, 15.6 mpg, diesel averaged $5.75/gal. That was it for YS trip #2, #3 is in July for a 4 day wolf field seminar w naturalists as guides, including 3 hikes.

I was just thinking that a single person doesn't really need to cool the whole house... Just coming in to a cool room after sweating outside would make a big difference.
This is very true. Its just me here now. My PTAC room is only 11 x 17. When it gets really hot I shut the door to the main house and crank it up. When you come in the back door you get a nice cold jolt. Same for when it get really cold. I can shut the door to the main house and make it toasty.

it;s not possible for me to put a vent to the outside, my house is solid brick.....

My house is brick too. My walls are 12 inches thick solid brick.
The installer had this really big circular saw. I think it was called a masonry saw.
It cut right thru everything. Downside, there was dust everywhere.

For the small hole you would need for a portable AC unit I bet there a large hole saw bit that would work.
You said youre moving so you probably dont want to hassle with that .

that's right...if my husband was still here he would or could have done it...in fact I still have all his electrical saws here... but as you said..I am hoping to move so I won't do it.....if I'm still here this time next year..I'm going to get AC installed...this is just totally unberable.. 🥵

In a campground in California (I forget exactly where), they required everything with a scent be placed in that bear box. Including tooth paste, deodorant, shampoo, everything! I discussed this with an employee and asked him if those big Class A Motorhomes had to do that, too. He said no. I called BS on that since if a bear can tear into my van, it can certainly tear into an RV. A friend who had worked as manager for several campgrounds in that area said he had seen a bear tear open the side of a motorhome.

51 years ago I met the devil up close and personal and got away. :(

5-27-1975... the day I was burned beyond Recognition.
Caught in a gasoline fire while in the pit under a car.
came out from under that car engulfed in flames.
2nd and 3rd degree over 60% of my body. Face, arms, (burned my arm to the bone). legs, feet, back and worst of all, my private parts. burned my arm to the bone.
Rebuilt my face and ears. (not the handsome dude I once was) ;)
Wasn't expected to survive, figured my lungs were toast. Clinically dead and revived 3 times while in intensive care.
Suffered through many skin grafts. I know pain.

Of course, this was only one of the 10 times I managed to cheat death.

34C is about 94F. That would be miserable to sleep, work outdoors, etc. But for everything to shut down like that? No water? Rails buckling? Wow!

..because we're a crap country..lol... seriously......we as Brits travel to nearby hot countries like Spain and Greece, and they never have a problem with going to work ..or water supply, or trains not running... but the UK has an excuse for everything...

I'm off out in a minute and I'm staying well inland... after this holiday week is over, and kids are back to scvhool, and hopefully people are back at work.....I'll venture to the coast... but I'm going to enjoy the peace of an inland jaunt today

Morning all, on my early walk at 6:45 temp was 60. I crossed at the signal light and strolled down the street to the end where local co op is located.,bought couple items On my way,saw a couple people out walking their dogs. There was one dog I couldn't tell what breed it was, turns out was a 3 yr old Saint Bernard. I usually don't see dogs that big on any of my walks
No real plans except today take advantage of another sunny warm day highs near 80 with a mid morn/afternoon walk,,read today's NYT, after dinner tackle the daily crossword puzzle. Once in awhile I'm able to finished Weds NYT puzzle, last time it happened was in Feb
Everybody have a good day

Good morning, everyone. It is cloudy at 74 degrees. Rain last evening and today, too. It goes from no rain to constant rain.

I am going to my doctor this morning. It is a checkup for my kidney disease. Hopefully the lab results were not too bad.

I hope all of you in the heat distressed areas have some cooler days, soon.

Have a good day, everyone. :)

The world is amazing and wondrous. My daily morning walks with the pups are exhilarating: seeing some wildlife critters, talking with neighbors and strangers (my dogs are great socializers,) all the beautiful flowers, birds are singing (I always stop and listen to Mockingbirds,) and while some dogs are curious, others tell us to go to hell.

Yesterday I saw a young girl jogging on this street. She smiled (at me or my dogs?) Our town is relatively safe, and I didn't worry about her.

Left: In old age, I have lost some flexibility, especially when dressing. I switched to these smaller socks; they are easier to take on and off.
Right: I have a love/hate relationship with my scale. I love it when I it shows that I lost a pond, and I hate the scale when I gained a pound.

And a few more random pictures from my walk this morning. Even tiny flowers are beautiful.

Left: Something new is always going on in our neighborhood, like a neighbor building a new block wall to replace the chainlink fence.
Right: And we have so much firewood that we give it away for free. Otherwise, I would have chop it up, etc. Just too much work for me.

I admire you folks taking your morning walks and such. My morning "walk" is limited to getting out of bed, going to the bathroom, and going to the kitchen to make a single cup of coffee. No pictures are needed or wanted of that little jaunt. :) It's currently 92F here in Central Florida, with tonight's low of 76F. I have my A/C thermostat set at 79, and with the ceiling fans, I'm comfortable. @hollydolly I'm sorry to hear about your current conditions.

Large thunder cells now towering over our 3k>5k foot coastal mountains to the east. And weather radar shows an uncommon thunderstorm may pass over my area from that direction in about an hour. Per last post, am still planning to drive up to The City a bit after that. Drove 5 miles to my KP hospital for a walk in blood test only to find the department crammed with people for an unknown to me reason? So skipped that. On the way home bought a few groceries and gasoline. Then made a blood test appointment at a nearby closer KP office for tomorrow afternoon.
