I speak MY truth

I have been hearing this phrase a lot more lately. In public, family/friends conversations,
radio and in films or TV series.
I always have to mull over what they really mean by that phrase.
I always come down to this conclusion:

they are changing the word "opinion" to "truth" .

What I'd like to know is why the need to switch to truth?
What is your take on it?

Exactly. And you asked for a reason...my thought is that in using "truth," they think it will be more convincing to sway anyone who listens. "Truth" seems to give it more credence in their minds. And that is MY truth.

The truth can change from one person to the next. The guy who says cilantro tastes like soap is speaking his truth. The guy who says cilantro is needed to make a decent salsa is speaking his truth. Both are telling us their "truth".

You're right. My truth. My opinion. Different meanings.

That's a good example and used correctly.
However, in my opinion, " my truth" is overused and incorrectly used.

Considering the conversations I have been in or overheard this phrase used
I would say it is a way of sending out a hint or warning of
"I will not waver, I will not listen to your side,
I will not concede to being wrong"

That is my "opinion" of about 85% of conversations I have heard or read.
