We are looking at rain, rain, and more rain, and that's a good thing because the state is still in a bad drought. I'm hoping the precipitation (provided the forecast bears out) will help alleviate that.

I have an article due in a few hours, then I'm going to stock up on some food and hit the road.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.

I got the strawberries frozen , here they are in the big roasting tray I used to flash freeze them...and now portioned up and into the freezer. I managed to get 5.... 1/2 pound packs

I had strawberries a few weeks ago. 1lb, ate them for a week..
Going to get a few lbs and freeze them so I do not need to eat so many.
Thank you for reminding me to get some more.

@Susa is your friend, Trila?..well we're glad to have here here (y)
Yes. @Susa and I met online 5 years ago. We talk to each other just about every day. I'm thrilled that she has joined The SF!

Quite a while back, someone commented on the cute emojis that I sometimes use, and asked where I find them. My answer was that I had a friend who found/made them. They are much better than anything that I could ever do on my own! That friend is Susa.....she is very talented!!

This talk about strawberries, reminds me that I need to go down to one of the local Whole Foods markets and buy to try out, a package of the more expensive at $6.99 for 14 ounces, Driscoll's Sweetest Batch strawberries. The nearby Santa Cruz and Monterey counties lead the nation in strawberry production. I often eat any berries I find out in natural areas with blackberries most common. Normally just buy whatever is in a supermarket, however I've noticed even the small sized wild beach strawberries that natively grow on some sandy beach dunes are often noticeably sweeter that those huge strawberries sold in supermarkets.

Went out with my B&D hedge trimmer and sawed off a patch of overgrown grass that, for some reason, my neighbor doesn't mow. It was about 2 feet long and going to seed.

Moved some houseplants out doors. These activities made me very sweaty and very tired.

Picked some catnip and took it to a woman I had promised last fall. I brought some then and the cats weren't too enthusiastic about it. I read online that catnip is best before it flowers. The kitties were much more receptive to it today.

Holly Dolly, thanks for always posting your pictures, always look forward to them Sue

Yesterday was mostly an errand day... grocery shopping and a quick trip to Costco. Though they apparently stopped carrying what I went there for, I still spent nearly $100!. ($50 of that was covered by my Medicare OTC card.). Plus I filled up at the Costco gas station ($5.49/gal so down a touch).

Had a nice evening out for DGS's end of the year orchestra and band concert. Today I'll be counting in a few boxes and perhaps ordering more to keep a steady flow through the machines.

We start delivering to our customer in a couple of days. They don't need it until the beginning of July, but early delivery gives them time to arrange their stock. Since we don't invoice them until July 1st, It's not a financial burden to them to receive goods early.

Well at 8am this Saturday morning, drove the mile to a Whole Food market and per above bought a 32 ounce package of Driscoll's Strawberries for $6.99. Then ate a couple of the reddest ones. Compared to regular supermarket strawberries, I would tentatively agree they are more flavorful and maybe somewhat sweeter. But not as sweet as the wild beach strawberries I mentioned. It may be that the Driscoll's Sweetest Strawberries are a seasonal product that indeed is sweeter, however that doesn't seem to be a current product, even online.

Here is what Google AI relates:

Wild beach strawberries (Fragaria chiloensis) are significantly sweeter than standard supermarket varieties primarily because of their size, their evolutionary adaptation to harsh coastal environments, and the way they are harvested.
Here is why they pack such an intense flavor punch:

  • Higher Sugar Concentration: Wild strawberries are tiny. Because they are so small, they contain much less water than plump, commercially grown strawberries, leading to a higher concentration of natural sugars and aromatic compounds.
  • Sun Exposure and Terroir: Native to coastal dunes, wild beach strawberries are battered by ocean winds, intense sunlight, and poor, sandy soil. This harsh environment stresses the plant, forcing it to channel its energy into producing robust, flavorful fruit to attract wildlife and ensure seed dispersal.
  • Vine-Ripened Perfection: Supermarket strawberries are bred for durability, size, and shelf-life. They are usually picked while still white or pale so they don't bruise during shipping, meaning they never develop their full sugar potential. Wild strawberries ripen fully on the vine, allowing them to develop their maximum natural sweetness.

Growing up, my parents enjoyed gardening and would often plant strawberries. Like the wild variety, they were small sweet berries that I loved to eat. This is a small crop from recent photo of wild beach strawberries I took during my North Coast road trip:

Popping in to say a quick hello from my motel room in a rural town. I got here and was horrified (well, maybe not horrified, but displeased) to see there is a fridge and microwave but no coffeemaker! 😱

Luckily there is a Walmart right next door, so I scooted off before I had even unpacked. 🤣

@StarSong, I hope you enjoyed your grandson's band and orchestra concert. I always particularly loved orchestra because they had to dress so formally. I've used my son in his orchestra dress outfit a few times as my avatar.

@hollydolly, I always love your photos, too, and the ones @packleader and @againstthegrain often post on this thread.

I took the wind-up wall clock to the repair clinic. Ninety minutes of watching someone fumble and stare at it, take it apart, fidget, then put it back together saying she couldn't say why it didn't work. In general acted like she really didn't know what she was doing. It took her over half an hour just to get it apart. I was very disappointed.

She mentioned two places I could take it, but I had already been to them. One said they didn't repair that type of clock and the other's solution was to replace the innards with a battery operated mechanism after which the pendulum would be inoperative. To me that destroys the clock.

When I complained to the person that looked like the one in charge, her cover a$$ excuse was that a lot of the repair technicians didn't show up and suggested I take it to a repair clinic in Saratoga.

Deb..it may sound too obvious or maybe unlikely but have you perchance looked at Youtube for clock repairs ?
