Millennials Would Send Troops To Fight ISIS But Don't Want To Serve Themselves

Weird, in a world where they still have to sign up for selective service, even without the draft...you think the overwhelming opinion would be NO. Not quite right believing boots to the ground, but not yours.

Typical of the younger crowd. Will Rogers in discussing taxes said "Don't tax you and don't tax me, tax that fella behind the tree". Kind the same story here isn't it? They want the fight but not the bloody nose.

In a survey Millenials (18-29 year olds) would send US troops to fight ISIS but don't want to serve themselves.

Millennial support for troops to fight ISIS has been increasing over the last year. They say a distrust of government is why many don't want to serve.

Personally, I would like to see a reinstatement of the Draft....with NO exemptions, other than mental or physical disability. If EVERYONE, rich or poor, had to face the possibility of their child being called up for military service, I think a lot more people would pay attention to global events, and how the politicians are handling such. As things stand now, with this "volunteer" military, most people don't give a hoot about what is going on, because they have No skin in the game.

Hmmm. I believe conscription causes problems. Vietnam? What a mess that was. In this instance millenials are smart. I wonder what the over 29 but still eligible to fight say? If there is a draft, it should apply to women also--sexist otherwise.

Yes, Vietnam was a total mess....due to stupid leadership in Washington, and countless "military exemptions". Basically, those who were placed in harms way in the jungles were those who had few options that would have precluded carrying a rifle. Few of the Rich served, and anyone with a C average in high school could qualify for an "education" deferment.

The youngest is still in school, the oldest almost too old if there was a draft. Youngest girl mental exemption, two middle girls...yeah draft their butts and show them the real world...not that I'm bitter.

The reason we still have a draft possibility and everyone signed on is for quick response in case of something big happening. I agree with Don M but only if his no deferments were to happen. When I got into the Army it was because I was in the Army reserves and had to be activated. Since the end of the Vietnam mess the military has run well from the volunteers and the reserves and National Guards. Best for the military as most were willing to do the dirty work.

Both my son and daughter have graduated from colleges and still decided to go active anyway. My daughter did 8 years of active and reserve. My son has just finished something over 20 years of active within his Reserve association. Both are now out trying to make a living in our messed up economy. I think they will eventually both do OK.

I think your suggestion Don of NO EXEMPTIONS is excellent! That way all the war mongers would think twice before starting something that their little 'Skippy' or whomever would possibly get blown up in. But I also think that it's a case of karma working here. What I mean is that the neglect of veterans (on either side of the border) is maybe having an effect. If you know there's a chance that you'll lose a limb and your government will lose interest in you at that point...well who in their right mind is going to volunteer for that kind of treatment?

Here's a hypothetical: what would happen if no one on either side, came to the war and the war mongers in $5000.00 suits were sitting there, facing their well dressed enemies across the table. Why, they might have to actually talk it out! What a novel idea!

The politicians will decide, as they always have and always will, who does not have to serve...
