A horror story involving a hospital, a police officer and a sick woman.

This is an appalling account of a woman taken to hospital by ambulance with abdominal pains, discharged and arrested for refusing to leave because she didn't feel right.

She died from an embolism.

It sounds like the system failed her by not taking her seriously. At the very least she could have been kept for a few hours for observation but instead the police were called. Then it all went downhill from there.

I once reported to hospital with a mild chest pain and it was 3 days before they decided I was OK to be discharged. To this day we still don't know what caused the pain which disappeared soon after I presented in the ED.

I'm imagining she was black and it was a city hospital. I remember back in the day. I lived in the Village and went to St. Vincent's. I got hit by a cab and thrown into a gutter. Major shoulder pain...I was young and white. They saw me right away. People sitting on the floor in the hallway going cold turkey...hey the doctor might get to you eventually. Really it depends on your color and insurance.

I fell and sprained my ankle badly in Boston and couldn't walk. The emts were called and thought I might have a broken bone so they took me to Mass. General emergency. I was in agony but the young doctor made caucasian, insured, me wait on a gurney for hours while he attended to a stabbing patient which is the way it ought to be.

Sad story for sure, but some hospitals do have their priorities right.

Lucky for you but seriously it shouldn't be that way should it?
