Al Jazeera America to shut down in April!

After only two years it could not gain a market share of any size against Fox and other outlets. I'm sure that it will missed by some and maybe some seniors here...

I watch Al Jazeera occasionally...as it does a far better job of reporting International news....without spending half the time on Pundits expressing their opinions. Most of the other cable news channels, Fox, CNN, MSNBC, etc., don't do anywhere near as good a job of actually reporting news about the messes in the Middle East. I suppose the AJ demise is at least partly due to a "Muslim Backlash".

I'm one of those seniors who will miss it. Their presentation is matter-of-fact rather than matter-of-opinion and gives a perspective of international news that we don't get here. We'll still have BBC to watch, thank heaven.

And QS, I believe that you're right; its name is a hindrance. What a shame.

Don't think the web site for Australia is closing down.

I think AJ is just closing down their U.S. operations. Recent reports from the TV ratings services showed that their viewership was down to about 7,000 people, on average. With such a low rating, they can't get any companies to continue advertising on their channel....hence, they are going broke with their US operations. Unless their corporate offices want to subsidize their operations here, they cannot continue to operate.
