Word is spreading on FB with all my HS classmates that our 50th (and likely final) reunion is going to be this summer.. July or August. Big plans are in the works... a dinner dance... a picnic... and a tour of our old school! I'm looking forward to it.. but also dreading it. All the old HS insecurities are bubbling up.. weight... looks.... hair.... and any real or imagined flaw.. The mature woman in me knows it's rubbish... the HS girl isn't so sure... Did anyone do anything special as far as preparation or just went and figured you have probably held up better than most?? ahahahaha.. Any funny reunion stories to share?

I don't do reunions, but I think that most of that high school peer stuff should have passed by now. If you go, we want a full report, naturally...

Yes, I've already done the 50 year mark...glad I went, enjoyed seeing all the old folks, several have passed on since then....stifle that HS girl and show them how you have improved with age.

Well.... as I said... it's difficult... and VITAMIN "B" (botox) is calling me like a siren song..

Good side of reunions: Both my husband and I reconnected with old friends. We went to HS in New Jersey, but at the time of our 50th, we were living in Washington state,
near Seattle. We went back for both reunions, and found husband's best friend from childhood living near us in another suburb of Seattle, and became very good friends with
him and his wife. And we discovered someone from my class living on the same island as us and also became good friends with him and his wife. Our life would have been
so much poorer without those two reconnections!

Bad side of reunions: It's kind of shocking to see how many classmates had already died.

Funny side: I found that the same "catty" girls I didn't like then, were still acting the same way now, sitting together and whispering through the whole proceeding. I guess
basic personalities don't change.

I had my 50th reunion last summer. I worked hard on losing 20 pounds, had a killer dress and, I think, looked pretty darn good. I'm glad I went, but there were some people I had looked forward to seeing but didn't enjoy seeing, as they have grown bitter and old. I did have a good time with the ones who are still fun. A bunch of us went to the state fair while we were there and that was a blast from the past.

Even if we have another one, I can't see myself attending. At the rate my classmates are dying off (another one three days ago), we could hold the reunion in my shower stall.

I didn't go to my 50th because my hips were SO bad, but I went to my 40th. I don't know what I was expecting, but I left feeling kind of flat. Can't say I really enjoyed it, but I guess I'm glad I went. As jujube above said, many had already grown bitter and old; also some were working way too hard to seem younger than they were.

I never go because I live way across the country from where I went to school thank goodness, and besides, I would find the whole thing stressful for so many reasons.

I haven't been to any of my reunions. My 50th will be in 2020 and I don't know if I'll go. I might if it coincides with our annual trip to the US.

Went to my 40th and it was okay..nice to catch up with a few but that was enough for me. I graduated in a very large class, so mostly people I didn't know to begin with were there. I think none of us felt any "school spirit" anymore. :zz:

QS: Consider this one: My old friend Charlie who attended Morton East with me, sent me notice of our 40th reunion, 2000. The official letter listed deceased members. Out of 300+ graduates, 88 were already dead! 1 out of every 4. I thought, how is that possible, there I was in 2000, aged 58.

Maybe the water in Berwyn, Cicero? Nah! Too many hoodlums, as I recalled it! imp

Went to my 50th last year. We had a blast. I was on the reunion committee and we scheduled an all weekend event. Friday evening, we had a social at the bar in the hotel and pool area. Very nice. Saturday, we did the school tour, lunch and then we dedicated a tree on the school's campus to the classmates that have passed away and also to the class in general. On Saturday evening, we had a dinner-dance with several surprises like, old teachers showing up and telling stories about certain classmates, we did the dances from "back in the day", and we gave away some really nice gift cards to restaurants and for gas. Sunday morning, we did a good-bye breakfast buffet. It was a very special weekend and we had a lot of compliments afterwards. I never heard a word about who gained how much weight, who lost hair or any other bs stuff that people were afraid was going to happen. (I was able to get United to donate 5- $100.00 off fare cards, which were treated like gold.)
