Personal Grooming for seniors

I have always tried to be well groomed and find it harder as I age. The hair in my nose and ears grows faster than the hair on my head, but I guess I should be happy that I have hair on my head. My skin has become thinner and taking a blood thinner results in easy bruising and cuts. My hands and arms right now have five band aids because of rose bushes. I can still get into the suits and coats that I wore pre retirement and they fit fine except I have no need to wear them other than for the occasional wedding or funeral. I can deal with aging. I just don't want to look like some of the old men that I remember when I was a teen ager. Ladies as they age seem to do a better job of grooming than their male counter parts. With their blue hued hair, jewelery, make up and other accessories they can look just fine.

As long as I can get up in the morning, do the minimum grooming required so as not to scare small children and dogs or cause pregnant women to miscarry, I'm ahead of the game.

I try to hit a happy medium between "I'm ready for my screen test now, Mr. DeMille" and "I'm off to Walmart. Need anything?"

Lon, Wear gloves and long sleeves when working in the garden.

I have never been the prettiest thing, but I stay clean, groomed and like to wear jewelry. I try to stay as presentable as possible and that my unruly hair will allow.

I don't seem to need a lot of grooming and don't care do myself up much, just try to stay clean, combed and dressed in simple attire. I try to avoid hurting myself with sharp knives, frying pan grease and whatnot, so far so good.

Those blue haired ladies from bygone era must have 'dyed' off long ago. My mother never did that, but was a regular at the beauty parlor for her perm and blow dries. Me, I haven't seen the inside of a hairdressers for quite a few years now.

Welcome to the club, Lon. Its going to get worse as you move along and physical difficulties worsen. At 83, I've buttoned my last button and hooked my last belt. I wear nothing now except sweat pants and sweat shirts or long sleeved tees in the Winter and elastic waist shorts and short sleeved tees in the Summer. I go to the mail box in them and sleep in them. I gave up my car. Have my food delivered. Buy everything else on-line. Only see deliverymen, my son and grandsons. Quite content to never leave the house these days. All of my friends are dead except for you guys. So how do I look? :turnaround:

You look marvelous :)

Not sure what to tell you lon. Getting old sucks.

One thing I have noticed though.........for every grey hair I get I also gain in weight.....must be some connection there. I have a regular visit at the hairdresser.............especially after Christmas.

Lon, a lot of guys here in our geezer ghetto have large holes in their haircuts. I don't have that condition, but all the color has faded to white.

I haven't heard it lately, but it still applies: we get too soon old and too late smart.

Oh yay, the men start to go bald and we genetically female start to get the light beard and mustache thing going on. Those low testosterone commercials make me laugh.
