Halloween night

Do you pass out candy or cut your lights out and pretend you're not home?

Living in a condo high rise is wonderful. They can't access the building, but I've handed out plenty of candy before moving here. And it boggles the mind the number of homes that are decorated to the max, some almost as if they have been professionally done. Halloween lights have quadrupled in numbers in the last year or so and some of the extravagant/expensive decorations equal Xmas decorations, just not as many. To each his own, but I think the joke is on those willing to spend so much money on it.

I pass out candy but the kids who come to the door are local and I usually know the parents. Once the candy is gone, I turn off the outdoor lights.

I miss handing out candy to all the happy kids having fun on Halloween. But, living on an isolated private road in the country there ain't nothin' but real ghosts and goblins creepin' 'round.

Out where I live I don't have trick or treaters either ... but grandkids do make a quick stop-over to show me their costumes, before heading to their activities ...

I pass out candy until I'm all out, then it's lights out for me. I just bought 4 of the 11 oz. bags (fun size), and two 3 1/2 lb. bags of candy. The neighborhood kids come early, right after it starts to get dark, then we see more older kids from other neighborhoods being dropped off in groups. I just care about the kids that live nearby.

Used to make quite a production of it when I was married with kids - planning for Halloween was like planning for D-Day. Spent a lot of time, money and effort on it but I didn't mind - it was MY holiday and the family had a great time, as well as the kids that came to the door.

When those same kids started having voices deeper than mine we figured it was time to cut back on the celebrations. Still handed out a ton of candy, but the groups being "imported" into the area were a turn-off. As well, kids started having more chaperoned parties instead of trick-or-treating, so that cut back on the traffic as well.

My present roommate is totally against Halloween so there won't be any treating here. :(

We live in a senior community. The first 2 years, we had about 150 kids... We stacked up the candy for the third year... pounds and pounds for the expected onslaught. Third year- zero visitors. Some, kind, thoughtful soul put up a sign at the entrance asking for no trick or treaters... and destroyed a night of fun for most of us. The word got around, and no one comes to our door. Sad.:(

I suppose you could always put up a NEW sign that says "Trick-or-Treaters Welcome! Free Candy! Come One, Come All!!!".

... then just lay in wait and watch to see that ol' Grumpy-Pants doesn't come out and tear down the sign.

And another thought: why not have your OWN party, just for the seniors? Nothing like Halloween to bring out the kid in all of us ...
