Are you too busy?

Are you tired of hearing people say or imply that they are too busy to do something?
This is usually a copout, an excuse. I mean, too busy to send an email,
make a call, do something in the evening, etc. Single women say
this all the time because it is an all purpose excuse. I admit that I have
said I am too busy. But I am never too busy to call someone or email
or write a letter. Curiously, even folks who do not work and have plenty of
time will say too busy. Do they expect we should believe them?
Some folks would be too busy on a deserted island. LOL.

So are you too busy to respond to this question?

When people say that, I think it might mean they are too busy doing things they want to do, rather than the things they 'should do', or don't enjoy as much....if that makes sense.
I sent someone a christmas card and a letter some years ago, and she never responded. Disappointing as I would have liked to keep in touch...I do know that she would say she 'doesn't have time' to write, but would have no problem spending literally hours on the phone chatting. I'm not by any means a phone person, so we just never kept in touch.

Too busy is just a polite way to say they don't want to do it. Whether the person is busy or not, I don't want any them to correspond with me or engage in any social activities with me, if they truly don't want to do so. I wouldn't force anyone to keep in touch, and I'd resent it if they tried to push me also.

Does to me. Saved me saying it. :)

Our time is the most precious gift we can bestow but it is a finite resource. It's doled out at a steady rate and can't be borrowed nor banked for use later. We have to ration it carefully. Like money the more you appear to have the more other people demand a share of it. I learned that the hard way. I guess we all have. We can only prioritize who and what we spend it on.

A much heard derogatory term from one side of my family was 'time waster'. Anything that didn't involve productive action at tasks they deemed 'useful' or of duties they approved was 'a waste of time.' The other side were hedonists, (thank Gawd.)

It took me far too many years to figure out that doing what I enjoyed cost the same amount of time that doing something I resented did, and which therefore was the 'wasted' time.

So yes, I've been too busy for many people throughout the recent years. I've dropped them by the wayside as too expensive.
I've picked up quite a few others though who I consider as time well spent.

I've been dropped by quite a few too, that's okay, it's their time to spend on whatever their priorities are. No offence taken. I understand perfectly.

If I have to beg for a share of someone's time then I don't deserve to have it. No one should feel entitled to another's share of time. Nor should they give it with the expectation that the investment be repaid in kind.
We either give our time to someone, or something, freely, or we don't. If we don't give it freely, then we are 'wasting' it.

Hedonism rooools here now. At long last!

Of course, flight controllers, doctoral degree candidates and heads of nations might have a legitimate excuse ... as well as the one-armed paper-hangers and one-legged butt-kickers.

Pffft...they have 24 hours in a day, just like we do.

The only time I use the "no time" excuse is now at 4 :30 am while I am drinking my first cup of coffee and trying to wake up and then dash to the shower and head for work. I don't have much extra time at all right now.

Most of the time when people use the "no time" excuse, it really means I have no interest in whatever it is, because they or we can most of the time, make time for things we want to do.

[h=2]If you want to get a favor done
by some obliging friend,
And want a promise, safe and sure,
on which you may depend,

Don't go to him who always has
much leisure time to plan,
If you want your favor done,
just ask the busy man

The man with leisure never has
a moment he can spare,
He's always "putting off" until
his friends are in despair

But he whose every waking hour
is crowded full of work
Forgets the art of wasting time,
he cannot stop to shirk

So when you want a favor done,
and want it right away,
Got to the man who constantly
works twenty hours a day

He'll find a moment somewhere,
that has no other use
And help you, while the idle man
is framing an excuse[/h]

I like that one.

I am never too busy to help a person that really needs help, especially family, but by the same time I do like to have time for my own interests as well.

We all at some time feel that we have had enough for today & give an excuse to put things off.
Must ask a question of you AMETHYST, Like the Amethyst which changes colour according to the different
light, do you change your mind, & sometimes offer excuses to put things off?

TWH says:
I am "too busy" these days because most of the time I am just plain F'ng wore out, to do one more extra thing. I used to get more done in four accidental hours than most people did in eight hours of honest effort. These days I have difficulty getting the "eight hours of extra effort" done.
