Yesterday was the first day for nearly two years that I got up without a lot of pain from either my back or knee. That was the best Christmas gift I could have ever received! My brother and I took two hikes through the snow, first for a mile and a half up our gravel lane. Since we are at the end of the two mile lane and out nearest neighbor is a mile up the road, the snow was prtistine as no one had driven on it. It was so quiet, except for the occasional bird calling, and snow sliding from the trees, you could almost hear a pin drop.
When we retuned, I played with the schnauzer gangstas in the snow. It was really fun to watch them run and hop around in the belly deep snow, chasing each other.. Later, we hiked in the woods behind the house, with my brother blazing the trail across the creek and through the woods, and me following in his big foot steps in the snow. I took a lot of pictures, and at one point stopped and reflected on what an absolutely joyful and memorable day it was.
When we returned we had some spirits to warm us up and a great venison stew that had been simmering in anticipation of the return two cold, hungry adventurers.
Thanks for letting me share my memorable day with you. I would love to hear about some of your most memorable days. Sometimes the most simple things stick in our minds as our greatest memories.
