OK, I have officially become homicidal....

I just read that protestors from the Westboro Church (thankfully only four of them) showed up today to "protest" at the funerals of a couple of the Orlando night club shooting victims.

Thank goodness, their vile shouting was drowned out by people singing hymns and some members of a local drama society wore "angel" outfits with massive wings and stood in a manner so as to block out their signs as much as possible.

What in the name of God is wrong with these people? Why are they not listed as a "hate group"? If you looked up "hate" in the dictionary, you would find their pictures.

If you don't know who they are, just look them up. But be sure to have some mouthwash on hand, as you will definitely have a bad taste in your mouth when you finish reading.

They are listed as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. They get a lot more media attention than they deserve. Yes they are a vile group.

They are a band of SICKOS....NO...they DO NOT have a 'right to their opinion' if it means they use it as a license to DISrespectfully disrupt even funerals...I remember WELL what they did at Matthew Shepherd's funeral...(I knew this kid, he had lived in Denver) ... when they paraded their pukey hateful signs saying "Your son will burn in hell" and "God hates fags"... in front of the parents and all that attended Matt's funeral... I know of NO group that is more hateful than they are.... Their so called "Christianity" is a farce and is not even remotely related to the teacher Jesus....

Oh my, how can people be so hateful as to do that at a funeral after all that has happened. If there is a hell these haters should be the first to go there!

I haven't been watching any news for awhile, but hearing about this sickens me. I thought religious people were supposed to love their fellow brothers and sisters, not worship in churches that spawn such hatred and intolerance. They sound pretty 'out there' to me. http://time.com/32069/fred-phelps-westboro-baptist-church-dead/

The Westboro Baptist Church, which is primarily made up of Phelps’s extended family members, became notorious for holding protests outside U.S. soldiers’ funerals, claiming the deaths were punishment for America’s tolerance of homosexuality and abortion.

Wow, that post sounds pretty full of hate to me .... ????

In fact this whole thread is pretty full of hate.

Pot calling the kettle black, huh?

They've been disgusting and repulsing people for years at this point. They flat out don't give a crap already protesting/crashing war veteran funerals.

I agree Ruthanne. If there is a hell, it won't be a lonely place that's for sure!

If I ever encountered such people it might definitely be my first assault charge, wouldn't bother killing them they ain't worth going to jail over. Just enough to shut them up so fast they had no memory what hit them.

We're 40 miles from Topeka, home of the Phelps family and Westboro Baptist Church. For years, especially back when Fred Phelps was alive, they have been a despicable group using the name of religion to spew their hate. A couple years ago, the local television stations joined in an agreement to never mention the WBC name on air. After seeing them protesting funerals of our fallen heroes, the local media felt any recognition of WBC would be exactly what those pathetic purveyors of hate would want. Yesterday, the daughters and families were here for an early Fathers Day. The evening news was reporting on the funerals for Orlando victims. Even on the national news we were watching, it showed the folks with "angel wings" shielding the mourners from "demonstrators". Never once, did we hear Westboro Baptist Church.
I applaud the media for the decisions not to mention WBC. Keep them out of the pictures and out of the printed/spoken word. If everyone would do the same, perhaps this family would close up shop and crawl back into their den of hate.

Frankly I'm surprised there's been no violence towards the church members, whom I'd put in the same category as the KKK or Neo-nazis in terms of shear hatred. I could easily see someone exacting revenge on the church one day.

Regardless of who does the slandering, what happened in the Orlando massacre was Heinous. Also, Westboro are a noxious plague. In the end, no country has clean hands, mine certainly does not. Many private citizens do not either. Still, I choose

compassion, education, reconciliation, love, over the appalling alternatives. Humanity is worth the heartbreak, in the end, what else truly matters?

I think condemning people to a hell only available after death may be incomplete. In my experience, all of Dante's various levels of hell are present right here. Anybody want a tour? I got a detailed map.
