Do You Remember The Domino Theory? Did You Buy Into It?

I did in the beginning. After all, if we let those Dirty Red Commies take South East Asia (Viet Nam) it would next be the Philippines and before you know Hawaii and then San Diego.

The Domino Theory was never brought up during the Korean War.

Here's a visual of how the "domino" would fall:

I thought that the Domino Theory could certainly come-to-pass, the small agrarian counties of S.E. Asia would be easy pickin's for an aggressive, well equipped military force.

Since early days of settlement Australians have been afraid of some power deciding to wrest some or all of our continent from us. At first it was the French, then later, during the Crimea, the Russians but always there was a fear of China perceived as the Yellow Peril that would swoop down and overwhelm our tiny population. This is why the White Australia Policy was adopted.

Of course, during WW II it was actually the Japanese who headed our way until stopped in Papua but post war the Chinese communists took their place in our paranoia. Australians bought the Domino Theory and for this reason we entered the Korean War, the Malaysian Police Action and the Vietnam war.

Fats Domino was O.K. for his time. But now I am heavily into Domino's Pizza.

Of course the domino theory was a reality. The objective was expansion and one small nation opened the door for another. In addition to the ones listed cannot overlook the expansion efforts in Africa (e.g. Angola) and SA (e.g. Nicaragua).

You found a thrill...
