Politician In Switzerland Wants Ban On Hijab In Passport Photos

No one was ever concerned about Nuns wearing habits in the past. Clearly this is to limit Muslim entry and Muslim religious traditions. I knew a Muslim nurse that was fired for wearing a hijab at a Catholic hospital where nuns were working and wearing basically the exact same thing.

I was told to take off glasses my last drivers license photo. Many government agencies now use photographic technology that makes a photo more compatible with facial recognition software. The more facial features to use the better. I guess that includes the hairline and forehead.

Article did say the US still makes religious exemptions for passport photos. Current ID and passport photo rules in Switzerland also allow for religious and health exemptions hence the proposal to change it.

Many agencies here in the U.S. just ask the woman to pull her scarf back a little to reveal her forehead. It isn't necessary to ask them to remove the entire scarf to get their facial features.

This is a non news story. His reason, that caps are not allowed, is not even security related.
This is attention seeking behaviour, and it is working.

He is also against minarets. How does he feel about steeples and bell towers?
 
Very simple, for a drivers license or passport photograph no glasses or hats or veils...a clear picture is needed. But there should be the option of a private area with female officers if needed.
 
These are the guidelines where I live. Hijabs are not a problem

Photo guidelines

When we take your photo, we will ask you to pose according to the following guidelines:

  • Sit up straight and look directly at the camera, with your eyes open
  • Don’t smile, but have a neutral expression on your face, with your mouth closed
  • Remove all glasses or sunglasses, even if you need your glasses to drive
  • Make sure your hair isn’t covering your face, particularly your eyes.
Hats, caps and other head coverings

We will ask you to remove hats and caps.

Head coverings worn for religious reasons may be worn, but must be adjusted so that your whole face is visible, from the bottom of your chin to the top of your forehead, and both edges of your face. There should also be no shadows cast on your face.

Hair accessories are acceptable, provided they don’t obstruct the view of any facial feature.

The guidelines are because of the facial recognition system that would also apply to Switzerland

Facial Recognition System

All photos in the Roads and Maritime system are analysed by a Facial Recognition System (FRS), to check for potential identity fraud.

Facial recognition works by measuring the distances between facial features (eg eyes, nose and mouth) and then comparing the measurements to look for possible duplicates.

Therefore, it’s important that the photos we take meet international standards for pose and quality.

Politicians in the Netherlands and Australia would like to ban mass Muslims entirely. Apparently they aren’t willing to sacrifice their children on the alter of Islam like Democrats are.
