Is It Just Me?

Well, I just got here, so who am I to judge. But I think people are so focused on the election, that is all they want to talk about.

Good point Marie, it's getting close to crunch time and the focus is on who will be the next President of the United States, to be expected.

I totally agree Lon.Marie you are so right.me not being a political person at all, I feel like I'm being bombarded from every angle. I don't mind keeping up on the events but it is repeated and analyzed to death day by day, minute by minute. I guess we will have to just wait it out. At least on this forum I can skip the topics that don't interest me. Some sites have the entire post you have to scroll through. I just get tired doing that.

Ruth, you can just put number 52 (Politics and Serious Discussions) in your general settings for "forums to exclude" when you click on new posts everyday. That way you don't have to see anything there if you feel bombarded.

Edited to add: For those who prefer just not to see the Anti-Trump sub-forum, you can use the number 53. If you have two numbers they should be separated with a comma, always click on Save Changes at the bottom.

It is what you make it. I feel this community is a warm and friendly place. There are topics I find more interesting than others, but this is only one stop in all the online and offline reading and entertainment parts of my life. If you're not getting what you need, you can change it and supplement your interests by adding other sites and sources to read.

Communities, online and offline, do change over time and I find it interesting to part of that change.

Thank you SeaBreeze. I don't mind reading through the thread titles at all. I was referring to other sites where you have to scroll through the whole post to get to the next one.

Lon, it's you. You are not coming up with any new and interesting topics. Time to get on the ball. :)

Oh, what ever happened with that Memory Foam bed you bought, anyway? Sorry if I missed it, but did you like it or did you ship it back in favor of the much better 100% latex foam rubber, OR an excellent box spring and mattress, possibly with a latex foam rubber topper?

I can't see what was wrong with my "Sheds - its a man thing" thread myself - totally riveting in my view :D

(come to think of it did I post that fabulous thread on this forum?)

My new and expensive mattress is super and not hot as someone said Memory Foam mattresses were. I tried latex and did not like it.

I was wondering about possibly starting a new thread under the title of "The humble baked bean!"

I wanted to tell everyone that after years of turning up my nose and refusing all opportunities to partake of the baked bean and open a tin, I am now looking to open a can every now and again :D

I could add how much good I think they are doing "to my insides" but that may be adding a little too much excitement to the thread - what do you think?

Anyway, in the end I came down to posting my new found interest in baked beans here, and just wondering whether anyone feels I'm helping to debate on the forum :)playful: )?

Interesting topic Grahamg, thanks for your input! :p Over the years we used to buy at least on big can of baked beans, usually Bushs, for when we went camping. We both were offput by the sweetness of the average baked beans. Last trip we just bought a can of black beans that had no sugar at all added. We added our own onions, garlic and other seasonings and it came out pretty good. Lots of different kinds of canned beans out there, it will make things so much interesting for our next camp trip.

I don't like the sweetness of most canned baked beans, either, SB. I get the plain ones and tart 'em up myself, too. Or, once in a coon's age in the cooler months, I'll make up a big pot of beans from scratch. Yum!

Beans topic takes off!

Thanks for the posts on the subject of "beans" - who'd a thought it would work so well, and apologies to thread originator for taking it off theme.

My tarting up baked beans is confined to having them with cheese BTW but wouldn't mind giving those you describe a go

IMO every member of a forum has an obligation to contribute in some way, either by responding to a thread that interests them or by occasionally starting a thread that they think will be of interest to others.

The latter is hard to judge. You will have a lot of misses when you start a thread of your own. If you are lucky you might get three or four replies but it is not unusual to receive none. What interests some is totally boring to many others.

I start threads fairly often and this list will give an indication of the interest generated by some of them

4 (days gone by),
4 (current news, hot topics),
24 (politics)
35 (hot topics),
1 (anti trump)
2 (politics)
1 (anti trump)
2 (politics)
1 (anti Trump)
0 (politics)
3 (health)
5 (current news)
8 (politics)
46 (family & relationships).

As you can see, only three of mine attracted double digit responses and for at least one of these there has been negative feedback that suggests the topic has already been done to death.

It is not all that easy to start a thread in such a way that people will want to join in and share their thoughts. However the last topic on that list has received 10,378 views.

I note, from your profile, that you create threads in a number of categories besides politics and that most interest has been shown in Weight Loss and Fitness (Replies: 17 Views: 1,195), Health Insurance (Replies: 26 Views: 1,998) and Financial (Replies: 31 Views: 2,361)

If politics and the coming elections are becoming tedious for you, why don't you spend more time posting in the above areas? Speaking for myself, I am fascinated by American politics, especially as one way of the other, the outcome of this election will be momentous, not just for the US but for the world, including my neck of the woods. I feel that I am watching history unfold and it has captured my interest in the same way that the Apollo 11 and 13 moon missions did.
