Why is my highest speedometer number set at 140 MPH?

What am I missing here? Am I suppose to go that fast to keep my car (CRV) in good condition?
Maybe I should try and see if this car can go 0-60 in 5 seconds,ya think?
The new BMW's 2014 X5 xDrive50 MSport has a v-8 445-horsepower on all 4 wheels,what the
hell does one do with all that power under the hood?
Fastest Ive ever gone was 85-90 before I realize I was going downhill in the Colorado mountains, what an idiot I was.

I think it's to make you feel like you could actually GO 140MPH in a CRV without a NASA booster. :playful:

I used to have a few Triumph TR-6s that had 140MPH (well, actually 225 KPH) speedos, and those cars wouldn't go 140 if they were tumbling off of Mt. Olympus.

On the other hand, I had a wicked Corvette with a 160MPH speedo that could and almost did do it.

Besides ... every race driver knows you watch the tach, not the speedo. ;)

Best I ever managed to wring out was 145kph on downhill side of the Newcastle freeway. I was enjoying myself immensely until I took a glance at the speedo and did a quick bank account calculation and decided that the cops didn't need the money, or the licence!, more than I did and dropped it back to sanity level.

I'm only alive today because I never had a car that could deliver what the speedo promised.

It is to keep the prices of speedo's down.

Just imagine manufacturers having to make a different speedo for every car.
Triumph were the first family sports car to cruse at 120 mph.

SifuPhil Besides ... every race driver [I said:
knows[/I] you watch the tach, not the speedo. ;)

Thats another one, does anybody REALLY pay attention to that tach meter in todays vehicles?I think it was first put in cars about 10-15 years ago.

Ya know what I really miss, that digital speedometer,I thought that was really cool.
I remember seeing one on top of the dashboard just below the windshield.
Just about everything is digital in todays vehicles but that clocklike speedo is still there, put a small tv screen in there so Ill have something alse to do besides watching some of those idiots drivers out there.

What about the heads-up displays? I never had one of those - thought it would be cool, though, to see "87MPH" displayed on the little kid's face just before I ran him over ...

OK,Ill say it,any driver of any vehicle that drive 20-30 MPH over the speed limit on city streets/ highways is a total idiot and deserves a lifelong pain if he/she survives the crash.
We all know there are hundreds of these type drivers out there and the best thing most normal, law abiding drivers can do is PAY ATTENTION to your driving, cross your fingers and hope you get back home in one piece.

I always looked forward to passing through Georgia on my way to Florida, because there were several stretches on 95 that just screamed for speed. I'd try to arrange it that I'd be there at 4 or 5 in the morning, set up the radar and just stomp on it. Plenty of room to accelerate and decelerate, mainly straight and if you wipe out you just end up in a swamp. :playful:

Oh those reckless days! Wowzer.

There was a back road where all the nuts with fast cars went to race, when we were teenagers, I can well remember flying down that road hanging on for dear life. And I also remember laughing like crazy fools while doing it!!!

One time in high school I had just broken up with my longtime girlfriend, and I was so ticked-off that I left a note on the refrigerator:

"Ma - going to Florida. Be back in 2 weeks."

Jumped in the Vette and tore butt down the coast. It was hard to see the road doing 120 while you're crying. :sorrow:

... I healed rather quickly in Key West, though. :love_heart:
