Sleep problems

On Wednesday night, I fell asleep before 7:30 PM, but then awoke about 8:45 PM. Then I couldn't go back to sleep. It was around 2 AM that I eventually did, but then slept until almost 8 AM. This is a highly usual sleep pattern for me. Last night I couldn't fall asleep until almost 11 PM, then I "bounced" all night (sleeping a bit - 45 min to an hour), awakening, falling back to sleep and awakening again. These nights were also accompanied by weird dreams and I awoke with a frontal headache and deafening tinnitus.

I'm not plagued with worry and I don't have big meals near bedtime or drink caffeinated beverages after 2 PM. Why this sudden sleep disturbance?

I feel your pain. I have absolutely no sleep "pattern". Living alone here in Hawaii, with most of my family and friends on East Coast time, sometimes I crash and burn at 8 pm for 10 hours, sometimes can't stay awake til 8, sometimes can't get to sleep before 1 am, and get up at 4 am. Sucks to get old, I guess.

Sorry that I can't suggest any remedies. If I knew, I'd go for it myself. :)

I can't address your particular sleep patterns. One night of restlessness here and there is no indicator of any sleep disorders. I've used a bipap machine now for years and also the Somnomed dental device that have helped me beat my apnea problems. So basically I've eliminated my malady, thanks to science.

If there is no snoring or periods of gasping for breath, then you do not have an apnea problem. Remember that most people who get tested for sleep apnea were recommended to do so by someone in the family who noticed the symptoms. In my case, my wife had mentioned that I would have periods of not breathing that I was unaware of. So when I got tested with an all-night study, sure enough I did have it.

So I wouldn't worry about it. If you don't sleep good one night, then that usually means that you'll fall asleep fast the next night. Your body compensates.
Good luck and good sleeping. Incidentally, my sleep doc keeps track of my every night stats with this new machine I have, thanks to medicare.

Deb, I wouldn't worry about a pattern until it continues for more than 3 or 4 days. Falling asleep early that first day is probably what messed things up. The next day was just a result of trying to adjust to that. Hope by Sunday you're back to normal. :rose:

I have nights like that because I ate something I shouldn't have too late before bedtime.

THEN THE "gerd" RAISES IT'S UGLY HEAD. Then the baking soda and water joins the fight and I'm OK again.

BTW, I NEVER sleep on my back ! Always on my side (left) or on my stomach. So never "sleep apnea etc.

I have the nights when my brain will not shut down. I lie in bed and think....and think....and think. I mull over things that happened 50 years ago. I mull over things that haven't even happened yet. I mull over things that have no chance of happening.

On those nights, nothing will do but one of my very low dose Valiums. Shuts me right down. Unfortunately, I'm often foggy the next morning.

I used to have those nights too. I read every night and often find myself getting sleepy. Thinking I'm ready for bed, I think and think and think. Like you, I cover old memories, recent happenings, and just about every weird thing imaginable. I'm grreatful for having medical cannabis. I never need anything other to sleep. A few puffs off a CBD vape pen and I'm out until my alarm goes off with no "hangover."

I see a lot of medical marijuana patients with sleep problems. Most often it's pain or anxiety that keeps them up. It's great to see them on a return visit sleeping through the night and getting the rest their bodies need.

I never had a problem sleeping until about the last couple years, I can either take 1 Benadryl or sometimes I'll take a small dose of Melotonin and I don't feel groggy at all in the morning.Someone told me my BP pills might cause sleeplessness.

That doesn't sound so bad Deb, it sounds like you got adequate sleep that night. I agree that it's normal and many of us have restless nights now and then. Since you took such a late nap that day, I'm not surprised that it had an effect on your sleep. I bet if you didn't fall asleep before 7:30, you would probably have a normal night of rest.
