Biking for Exercise

Anyone here that rides a bicycle? I took my old one out of storage awhile back and cleaned it up, but only went out for a couple of short 4 mile rides on a bike path. I won't ride on the street in traffic at all. Been doing mostly walking, but I think I'll be doing more on the bike, especially when the weather warms up at bit. http://energytimes.com/pages/features/1006/pedal.html

My step-dad used to say all one did on a bicycle was "peddle their legs off to give their awrse a ride" lol lol lol

I wish I still had my J.C. Higgins bike (Sears-Roebuck) from when I was a kid. Between that and my horse, I rode all over my side of the county but that was in the 60's when a 12 yr old could do that without fear of getting kidnapped.

Even if I did have a bike, there is no way this side of Chattanooga and back that I would bicycle on my road. My horses wear down climbing these hills; the only flat spot is right on top of the hill, where we live and that's only 1/4 mile stretch at best - lol lol

Up until last year I was riding pretty much every day - it was the only easy way to go 5 miles to the food store. I lost my bike in the flood and I haven't replaced it, but I think I'd like to by this spring. I'm a street rider, and although the people are sometimes crazy you just learn to out-think and out-maneuver them.

Phil..you are the brave one!

I have a recumbent exercycle I got to help with the knee rehab. it's kinder to my back than an upright model.

My real bike has been hanging from the rafters in the storage shed since we moved here. I've been after my brother for a couple of months now to get it down for me. I'm getting no co-operation from him, since he's afraid I will fall and injure my knee...sigh...he's probably right, given my clumsy history. But I won't be satisfied until I get my way:rolleyes:.

It's always amazed me how I could ride a crazy horse, but can't walk a straight line on a smooth floor without tripping.

Those recumbents are cool looking but I would be afraid someone would run me over. I see them around and they usually have a flag on them but not always. Do you have a flag on yours?

We used to have them but we did not have the room to keep them inside and they got rust sooner than they should have. We have been talkng about bikes again but I'd like to get a couple of the floding variety so we could but them in a vehicle and use them anywhere, even when traveling.

Problem is that the folding bikes are generally more expensive and the cheaper ones are not as light as the better ones. I have seen them on Craigslist so once we set aside the money maybe I'll look there for a few months and see if we get lucky.

R. Zimm....my recumbent bike is an exercycle. I got the recumbent because I have back issues, which I would highly recommend to anyone who does. I imagine that would translate into a real bike.

As I mentioned in an above post my real bike is hanging from the rafters in the shed, and my brother is not enthused about getting it down and operational for me. It probably needs new inner tubes and some oiling up. I reminded him yesterday that I wanted it down, and he gave me the old lecture about hurting my knee if I fall, but "I'll do it, if I have to."

It still hasn't come down, and he is leaving next weekend, so I guess I'll have to drag the ladder out, and make him think I'm going to do it. That usually gets results.

Ha Ha Ha! At least you get your exercise even though you go nowhere. I only thought of a person that used one in our neighborhood but come to think of it, I have not seen her in some time so maybe she moved. She did have a flag on it and that helped me to spot her a couple of times.
