Does anyone smoke a pipe? Or did you?

I just realized that I haven't seen a pipe smoker for a very long time. How did it lose favor among smokers? Many years ago, an acquaintance smoked a tobacco called Cherry Blend and it had a pleasant aroma.

My stepfather smoked Middleton's cherry blend too, I always enjoyed the smell of his pipe.

I think that more people started smoking pot in their father's /grandfather's pipes. Later, the older tobacco pipe smokers died.

Seriously, I have smoked Cherry Blend in the past, probably the early 80s.

I don't smoke anything now, glad of it, but wished I had quit alot earlier...

I was a pipe smoker in the 60's, and I still have a collection of them. I tried a bunch of tobaccos, but preferred a mild Dutch cavendish. I gave it up in the mid 70's when I noticed a little ache in my chest after smoking. But, I still miss it, especially on cool evenings outdoors. I loved the smell of the tobacconist's shop. I've only smoked one cigarette in my life, and didn't like it.

I have HEARD that a lot of people have given it up because of the increase of cancer cases
of the mouth....(lips, tongue etc.) The hard plastic of the mouthpiece (stem) is much heavier than
a cigarette or cigar. I'm not sure of that however.

My Dad got cancer of the tongue and emphysema. But, he was a lifelong cigarette and snuff user. I bought him a pipe once, and he smoked it so fast the bowl got too hot to hold. A good briar pipe packed and smoked right should just get a little warm. Any form of tobacco is risky.

I was introduced to pipes by a co-worker who smoked them. His always smelled so good. On the other hand, I had a boss who smoked London Dock. It smelled like something from under a dock. Then there was Mixture 79, so flavored and sweet that it made your tongue numb.

Not to deviate too far from topic, but the tobacco I've used in the past that is A-D-D-I-C-T-I-V-E is:

Nothing better! I hated giving it up, was like getting divorced again....

My Dad would take a pinch of Copenhagen snuff, stick it under his lower lip, and never spit. He said it gave him pep. I tried Red Man chewing tobacco once, tried not to swallow any, and still got sick. It did taste good though.

Yes, I have 4 pipes, though I don't smoke as often as I used to. Tobacco is obscenely expensive in the UK, so I tend to buy it (and cigars) in Germany or the Netherlands.
