Mental health now called Brain Health

Dr. Amen has many videos about Brain Health. I like the way that sounds! He talks about how we monitor other systems of the self but brain health is not monitored much. This is very good news by him about Brain Health:

After looking at 15 minute of Amen footage, it bothers me that he is selling vitamins with a secret ingredient. He scares us with how bad our brains must be, but don't worry, my vitamins will save the day.

I do kind of eat like he suggests in another video. I do know fat is important for our brains and since Ive always watched my weight I was probably not eating enough good fats...Ive been making a conscious effort to do that lately.

I've watched him sometimes on PBS, a lot of what he says makes sense, not sure I would agree with all of it, I rarely watch the whole show. But healthy fats like avocado, spices like Turmeric, and pure water daily are all beneficial to brain health I'm sure. I'm a big fan of vitamins and supplements for decades now, and so far not on any prescription meds.

Avocado is one of my all time favorites and I eat quite a few, just wish the calories were a little bit lower. Ive also started using turmeric.

I'm slowly starting to go more natural but I'm not there yet.

Yes, I have been doing the same thing. Got myself a Ninja blender and started making stuff with avacado, plums, mandarin oranges, celery, spinach, etc. The mandarin orange or regular orange and plums over power the taste of other things you put in. Plums are very nutritious. I use red cabbage, regular cabbage. Red cabbage is also very nutritious. You can throw spices in. You know.

Thanks for all the comments, very interesting. I didn't even know he sold vitamins. I must have not seen that one. :)

Thank you for posting this SeaBreeze. Yes, he makes sense.

i like avacados, too, but have to have a taste for them or end up throwing them out. I should get some turmeric-putting it on my list.

Also considering that they are grown here in CA....they aren't that cheap. Cheapest now is on sale at Safeway 4/$5. Plus they're either hard as rock or too ripe.
Yes, you can get a bag at Costco cheaper but I don't belong anymore since I'm alone.

I like them for breakfast on occasion ...on toast with a fried egg on top. I also use it instead of mayo in egg salad.

The price here is about 1.29 each at the discount grocer and 1.79 at the regular grocer. I usually get them when they are hard and let them ripen. I think I'm going to try having it with a fried egg, that sounds so yum. :)

You are welcome. As for the vitamins, I saw that on the first video you sent me. I had a similar problem with an Opthamologist the VA sent me to. I have macular degeneration. This guy told me I would have to take his formulation of vitamins for the rest of my life. When I saw a new opthamologist at the VA she told me to stop taking this guy's vitamins as they were doing me no good.

Amen's stuff may do no harm but I wonder if his proofs about the brain are accurate. If they were why wouldn't neurologists everywhere be using his methods? I used to be a nurse and have worked in and around medicine most of my life. Amen is an inspirational speaker, and he does make people think about their diet. I do not think he is sinister. But I do think he is a salesman.

Thank you for posting about the vitamins and your opinion on that. I however "sent" in the link an entire YouTube page for which to choose from. Sorry I didn't specify that you could choose any on that page or all of them... :) As for his program, he is a pioneer in brain health for what was called "mental health". I don't know that neurologists don't know what he does...I have not researched that. I happen to think he is much more than a Salesman in the way I feel you are meaning it. Perhaps everyone is a salesman then; selling our ideas and goods, talents and skills.
