What's Going On?! 9 Huge American Flagged Planes Just Flew South Over My House! TX Hurricane Relief?

Not military cargo planes but but NINE new shiny silver GIGANTIC passenger sized planes flying southwest (direction of Texas) low over my house one right after the other...LOUD, 747-sized (bigger I think), marked only with a thin light blue horizontal stripe and a small American Flag on the tip of the tail (markings same as Airfare One but not a jet and bigger. Yes they were that close that I could see. They looked like they were coming from Washington DC. but flying very low. Loudest planes I've ever heard.

They look like they're headed in Texas' direction. I would like to think help is on the way for Hurricane Harvey victims! Yes Please! I need to go check the news. I think I heard a 10th plane in the distance but that could have been just a regular passenger plane. and an 11th

My heart is pounding because I've never seen or heard anything like that before. If they looked like military planes I would have thought war but these were beautiful sleek passenger looking planes...though clearly government with the American Flag on them.

Maybe the government is going to fly the hurricane victims out of there but then to where? Each passenger plane could hold 250 people easily. But the weather, I would think, would be prohibitive to fly in and out of at this time. Maybe they're just moving these planes to another location for reasons other than hurricane victims. Hmm.

Our local news said nothing but I found this online. It sounds similar to my experience with the same number of low-flying planes but happened a couple of weeks ago. The ones I saw had the same American flag on the tip of the tail but didn't have the strip that says "Charlotte" the planes looked lighter and sleeker. Both of us experienced low flying (1,000 ft?).

The photo in the link looks more military-style planes whereas I observed a more passenger type plane. This link said they are are practicing cargo drops, pallets of sandbags, etc. Um...yeah, quit practicing and head on over to Texas! Maybe they are. Wouldn't that be nice. But I prefer the idea of plucking them all out of there and taking them to safe havens nearby. That's a lot of people though and would need a lot of pre-planning. This amount of flooding and dam issue was unexpected

Low-Flying planes similar but not exactly...what I saw were passenger planes

Yes, the National Guard are there in Texas rescuing people. Trump will be there tomorrow.

The markings looked just like this Airforce One but the planes were bigger and not jets and there were 9 of them...

Really? Then maybe those planes will be taking them...that's awesome. Maybe they will let them stay in Convention Centers in several cities.

Just reported that 4 plane loads will be landing in Dallas within the hour... Recreation centers being opened up to house them, Walmart will be setting up pharmacies an a medical center stafted with local doctors will be there.

Hallelujah Ken!!! I love America. And such a quick response!!

When you say recreation centers, do you mean YMCAs? They have showers, toilets, sinks for brushing teeth. Our Y's here hand out towels and washcloths and even have hairdryers, lotion, soap, shampoo dispensers. That would be wonderful. No doubt there would be donated toiletries, and food. Water fountains are there too.

The 9 planes that I saw fly over my house each looked to carry about 250 passengers. Four planes could carry 1,000 per trip then. Nine (or10) planes could easily transport all 5,000 in two trips.

Remember all the criticism over the relief efforts and response time to Katrina when it made landfall back in Aug. 2005 ?........maybe (hopefully) the planes are a sign that we learned something the last time around, we'll see.

I'm going to assume that the planes just didn't fly down empty and that they were all loaded with food, bottled water, clothes, medical supplies etc. as well as trained disaster relief people.

You know that the criminals will take advantage of the situation and the looting of abandoned homes and businesses will begin soon if it hasn't already......we need a heavy police and Natl. Guard presence put in place ASAP, even if that means additional Natl. Guard forces need to be mobilized from neighboring states.

Indoor stadiums and convention center..cots being set up by the Red Cross..

I remember after Katrina, thousands were packed into that stadium, the toilets all clogged and overflowed; people were relieving themselves in the aisles and hallways, women were raped in there. All hell broke loose. Gang members threatened to blow up a hospital unless hey got money- I don't recall the details of that, but it was a nightmare.

I think that was because they had no disaster plan and were actually shocked when people arrived. It caught them by complete surprise. The people were off their meds too. I think the red cross had only a dozen beds set up.

They've got a plan this time. And medical care with prescriptions. But still, it won't be pleasant. Emotions are every-which-way-to-Sunday. Sad, mad, bewildered, missing their family, scared, etc.

Hi there cctrayders. Glad you're okay.

Perhaps they were from the Air National Guard 145th Airlift Wing. They have something like ten C-130 Hercules and are based in NC, I think. (Edit: I think they operate out of Charlotte). Stands for reason they'd be mobilized for the emergency.

Did the planes look like this:

(O’FALLON, Mo., August 28, 2017) Air Evac Lifeteam, the nation’s leading helicopter air ambulance provider, has deployed 14 aircraft and crews to respond to requests from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to provide critical care transport for patients currently located in the areas affected by Hurricane Harvey.
Crew and aircraft from six states are either already in San Antonio or are en route to San Antonio from the following Air Evac Lifeteam bases: Demopolis, Ala., Blytheville, Ark., Vilonia, Ark., Harrisburg, Ill., Cushing, Okla., Henryetta, Okla., Lawrenceburg, Tenn., and the following bases in Texas: Cuero (Methodist AirCare 6), Greenville, Kerrville, LaGrange, Paris, Seguin (Methodist AirCare 4) and Wichita Falls.
Joe Grygiel, senior director of base operations for Air Evac Lifeteam, said all aircraft and crews are on their way to the Air Evac Lifeteam fixed wing base at the San Antonio airport.
“All requests for patient transports will come from FEMA,” Grygiel said. “We expect our crews to be actively deployed for five to seven days.”

It is very good to hear that lessons have been learnt since Katrina hit New Orleans.

A lot of public money will be needed to rebuild flood ravaged areas when the water goes down.
After devastating floods in Queensland a flood levy was imposed by the federal government for a set period.
I hope people won't object if this measure is proposed after this hurricane season.

Yes jujube!! Thank you! The 9 planes I saw all looked exactly like that (I heard a 10th in the distance behind clouds). They're massive in size and very loud...but that may be because they were flying so low. Our local news mentioned that they had gotten a lot of calls with questions about seeing them.

I'm glad that the country is becoming better prepared to deal with natural disasters but wish the necessity was not there. I don't think Mother Nature likes the way we are taking care of her planet.

I knew it, I knew it, I knew it. Sooner or later global warming or something or climate change would be blamed.

Mother Nature is a fickle character that will show up any old time without any rhyme or reason.
