News reports the 300,000 to 500,000 vehicles where destroyed by Harvey!! If buying a vehicle in the future, be sure to check the title of the vehicle's origin!! New or used!!
 

Not all of the repercussions will be bad. Companies like Home Depot, Mohawk Industries, Maytag, etc... will most likely get a big lift as people purchase building materials, appliances, furniture etc...
 

$4 a gallon?...wow, that still a third less than it costs here in the UK... and we haven't got any disaster to attribute it to....just a greedy government syphoning off the vast majority in taxes

..but seriously yes the repercussions of this storm in the USA is going to be very far reaching. I just heard on the news that the storm is heading towards Louisiana today and tomorrow ..people must be terrified..

That's if you have insurance and can collect even if you have insurance.

There may be a clause in your insurance that exempts you from collecting. No one reads their insurance policies do they?

Being in Houston .... the local reports are saying the price hikes in gas will be temporary for maybe a couple weeks.

I just want to add, there is an amazing amount of false information being spread on the Internet by people not in the area.
 
It is all just so devastating......One would hope that there will be less Climate Change denying
after all these catastrophic events, but when it is coming from the top leaders in this country about all you can do is shake your head in disbelief at the ignorance.

You get a lot for those taxes. I'd gladly pay $6 bucks a gallon if we could have your NHS and Public Transportation system.

True, there will probably be a thriving industry of collecting, detailing and moving thousands of these vehicles to used car lots all over the nation. Once a vehicle has been submerged, any number of expensive repair issues can be expected.
 
I've experienced flooding and saw the car float down the street. If it's under water for a short period of time less than 24 hours there is "a" chance it can be fixed/dried out-maybe. But the a lengthy stay underwater I don't know. Not everyone can buy a new car and many insurance policies don't cover flood damage unless you have flood insurance itself.

That being said there were issues after Katrina. One way to detect a car with moisture/ WATER problems is sniff the carpet and upholstery. Once wet if a car is not properly dried AND cleaned there will a musty or moldy smell. Close the car up in the sun and smell it a few minutes later after you open the doors. Check for rust in odd spots, make sure there are zero electrical problems since wiring runs through many tight spots that were probably never dried out, drained etc.

And that's another thing, once power ac & heat restored the best way to dry/air a car or house in open the windows and get a fan on the area. ACs, dehumidifiers will only do so much. Literally air it out, don't recirculate the same air, open the windows please.
 
I thought it was illegal to sell them. But then a lot of stuff goes on that is illegal I suppose.
