Eating on the move......

Yesterday a local supermarket was giving free coffee to shoppers, my friend grabbed a couple and handed me one, “Where will we sit to drink it” ? I asked, she looked at me like I was mad, replied “Drink it as we go”
and proceeded to do just that, I took a few sips and dumped mine in a bin but it set me thinking...

Whenever I’m out and about all I see is people walking along stuffing food into their mouths or swigging from a can, bottle or paper cup, everywhere I look mouths are chewing, munching, biting or slurping, in shops, on the high street, side streets, benches, shop doorways, standing in queues, on public transport etc.

It’s not for me personally, but obviously people are so busy these days they don’t have time to sit and eat their meals, how about you, do you eat or drink while going about your business ?

I sit. I like shopping at Whole Foods because they have an area in every store where shoppers can sit and eat in relative peace. It's better than trying to push a carriage around while eating or having a coffee. Moms with kids have to feed the kids occasionally, but for adults, it's just nicer to sit and relax and eat. There isn't enough relaxing in the world anymore as so many feel they have to multi task. It's healthier to take a time out and just rest while you eat.

I sit. I see the same thing when out . Mostly its people on their phones not watching where they are going!

I sit and I sip.

When I was working I used to eat in the car, at my desk, on conference calls, etc... Since I stopped working I've tried to slow down to the speed of life and be more mindful of what I'm doing. I'm still in recovery but that is my goal, LOL!!!

I had to eat and drink on the go for many years. As a bread delivery person, my truck was my kitchen and office with an engine in front. It is so nice now to be able to sit and eat at a table. In fact, I’m always the last person to finish eating now, as I take my time and enjoy. And the big bonus is...my heartburn is gone.

When I'm out I sit.

When I'm home I eat on the fly.

Maybe that's why I don't put on weight. I live alone. I just can't be bothered setting up the table, etc. etc.

You eat more when you are sitting down.

I did that too when I was younger, both while going to school and working in the corporate world. Had a lot of fast food meals while driving in my car. I don't do that anymore so there is hope for you too :)

I ate lunch every day at my desk when I was employed, but stopped working during the meal, then go outside for 10 minutes or so.

I wonder if eating on the run is part of the weight problems today. If someone is occupied with something else rather than enjoying their meal, they may feel so unsatisfied, they look for more?

I like to sit when eating or drinking something, unless I'm just taking a swig of bottled water on a long car ride. Like Rkunsaw, we rarely eat fast food, but when we do we take it home and eat it there. I don't run around that much where I have to eat and drink things while walking the streets.

My son always has a coffee while driving and it drives me crazy! With all the driving my hubby and I did , we always
stopped to eat, often in a picnic area at the roadside. For many years we travelled with a dog, so stopping for him
was a necessity as well as a break for us.

I'm guilty. I pretty much live in the upstairs of my house---computer, TV, and coffee pot are up there. What else do you need? ;) I'll cook something in the kitchen, plop it on a plate and sometimes start eating as I go up the stairs. If it doesn't all fit on one plate, I don't usually cook it. LOL!

When I flew for United, I had a cup of coffee going from the time I entered the cockpit until just prior to landing. Now, it's a different story. When I walk into the grocery store, there is a Starbucks, which I hit right away, otherwise, I like to sit and relax with my coffee.

I know people who think they need to be eating and drinking constantly, and they do the same thing with their kids. I don't know when it was decided that children have to be snacking constantly or they'll fall over dead, but the notion seems to be pervasive. The adults in those families snack all the time too, so they must think it's required to sustain life.

I finally told a friend if he can't leave the coffee at home, I won't ride with him. He's dangerous behind the wheel of a car because he's always more worried about spilling his coffee than where he's driving. As far as I'm concerned, that's distracted driving and it's a driving hazard.

The hubby and I both sit to eat and drink at home. When we travel for pleasure we have travel mugs. Now they make them to last hot or cold for several hours. The good ones are quite expensive though. When I was growing up in the 50's it was unheard of to have a drink in the car. Once in awhile when my Dad stopped for gas we would all get a soda from the big chest in front of the station. We had to finish it before getting back into the car.

Debodun, same here. If I tried eating, or even worse, drinking and walking, I'd end up spilling something.
