The safest way to use a ATM.

Only tried it once, 40 years ago in Raleigh NC when they first came out, and after hours. You could only get cash in $25 increments then. Drawer came open and slammed shut before I could get the money out. Requested another $25, had a stick ready to shove in the drawer in case it tried to pull another fast one on me. The first $25 was still there. Went away with $50 and avoided big headache in the morning. Never again.

That's funny! Ok, I'm going to make this a contest! I'm apparently not the only one that knows nothing of ATM or debit cards, but am I the only person left that has never has no smartphone? I've had so many comments on that as I travel a fair amount, which includes going to the UK every year, and I manage without these things (although I did acquiesce and take a tablet with me now).
 
I never used an ATM machine very often, been decades since I touched one, but I do see them in banks these days in the lobby area, so that's a little bit safer for the user. A concealed carry would be better than bringing large dogs with you, you won't need to use your poo bag at the ATM while there's people behind you waiting. :p
 
I prefer the ATM to dealing with an actual teller.

I think that the drive up ATMs are a little bit safer but you still need to be aware of your surroundings. I usually have the door locked and leave the car in gear so I'm ready for a quick getaway, LOL!

I do find it creepy, dangerous and annoying when the ATM is in a secure booth and another person enters the booth when I'm processing my transaction.

I figure you just bring the 'poo bag', leave it on the ground a couple of feet away from you, and no one will bother you........................

With or without dogs the poo bag could still come in handy......the would be robber may need it after he sees you pull your weapon. :D
 
I don't use ATM's as I walk with a cane and consider myself a target anyway. I go through the drive thru for my cash once a month and deposit any small checks I might have. I don't use my debit card for security reasons. Use a couple of cash rewards credit cards and pay off at the end of month. Don't need a fancy phone so my cheap cellular one does the job. I have what I need. Friends and family know I can't text as I only have one hand and if they want to tell me something they can call or email me. My life is pretty simple and that's how I like it. I don't need much to get by and am trying to down size my material things only to what I truly care about. I have too much stuff.
 
I use ATM's on a regular basis. I always use them at a regular bank and during regular banking hours. You are in plain view of the inside tellers and usually folks in adjacent drive-up lanes. Fortunately, I've gotten by 'til my mid 80's without having to resort to attack dogs or carrying firearms. At midnight, on a poorly lit street, in a seedy part of town? Maybe a mental exam would be more help than a gun.


I do sympathize with those folks whoevidently live in frightening parts of our country where self-defense and survival seems to be their main concern. Always had dogs and always owned firearms but never considered either a necessity in going about my normal existence.

Actually at an ATM one should be just as or more concerned about someone watching and following them.....to a store or to their home......lurking & watching/waiting.

I only use ATM inside a bank/store. On those rare occasions that I use an outside machine it is when I am with someone who is in the car watching out for me.
 
I'm not a ATM user either, I'd rather do a face to face thingy.

I had a little chuckle to myself when I was looking at the pic's IKE posted. I thought, wow those are some beautiful dogs. Never mind about the pretty gals, I'm checking out the dogs.. ;)

So you use the bank? ATM's are open 24 hours. The bank isn't and just about anything you can do inside the bank, you can do on the ATM if not more.

I like to go inside and use the bank, they even have a desk where you can sit down for seniors.

But I still use the ATM for withdrawing cash or paying bills.

Things you cannot do at the ATM:

- get certified check or money order
- access your safe deposit box
- apply for a loan
- get a large bill broken into smaller denominations
- get a roll of quarters, dimes, etc.
- discuss/resolve a problem with your account
