Dollar stores - What do you buy?

No Dollar Stores or Dollar General Stores or Dollar Trees or Dollar Buddy or Your Dollar or Family Dollar for me.

I go to our 99 Cent Store, where EVERYTHING is 99 cents or less!

Sometimes I buy 3 boxes of Cup O' Soup with pieces of shrimp (not just "shrimp flavored") for 30 cents a box.

When I pay at the register, I get 3 boxes of Shrimp Soup for 90 cents, and even get change from a buck!

How things have changed. I remember when these stores first started up. Nobody would be caught dead in one. They were filled with low grade junk, all from China, etc., etc. Putting Americans out of work, and on and on. Now, everybody shops there.

( BTW. I wonder about all the dollar stores popping up all over the place. There may be a problem with having so many of these stores. Since the size of purchases in the stores are generally small, they are usually paid with cash. Back 30-40 years ago, there was a "video rental store" on every corner. And by using some of those stores, organized crime was able to "launder" money, or their profits from crime. Who is to say the video, "Saturday Night Fever" wasn't rented out 36,000 times? "No, we didn't make any money from prostitution, we made it all from our videos stores". Since there is a dollar store on every corner, like the video store days, I wonder.)
 
I haven't been to one in awhile and Fresno has them all, my favorite is the 99 cent store though. It's huge and has everything and nothing is more than 99 cents...sometimes things are 2/99.

There are some things though that really aren't a good deal, meaning they cost the same elsewhere.
 
Same thing here in NYS,they're popping up in every small town.
They seem to be good and then get very disorganized and have cartons and dollies with merchandise that have to be navigated around,I put stuff down and walked out because there was this big cart piled with boxes right in front of what I needed...bad mood that day,I guess.

This time of year, dollar stores usually have wall and pocket calendars and daily planners for $1.

I keep stocked with paper plates... 50 to a packet for a $1. [Used to be 60 plates]

I don't like braggarts.)
 
I've learned to go at the beginning of a season. When they first put the Christmas things out you can get some really nice gift bags. I like the "brown bag" rustic looking ones.
Usually the fake flowers look, well, fake. But if you go when they first put them out you can find some nice ones. I have used them for work or crafts.
 
I actually decorated my tree in a buffalo check/plaid theme ( or checkerboard )
I got all my ornaments at Dollar General,a variety of shapes and sizes in the pattern, it was my favorite tree ever!
I like those rustic look bags too.

I go to the Dollar tree for cleaning supplies..Comet,sponges,etc. and just to look at all the shiny "thing a ma bobs" that I will never buy. Too many dust collectors which require more cleaning supplies. It's all a conspiracy don't you see.:eek:
 
The dollar store near us is located next to a movie theater. I notice all the kids going into the dollar store to buy candy for the movies. You aren't suppose to do that but who can blame them considering how much the theater charges for a little box of candy.
 
Same here,good deals on the cleaning necessities.
I loath "dust collectors".
I have a friend that I need to fight the urge to go to her house with a box of hefty bags,lol
