Big pile up on PA turnpike, also some deaths associated

Saw that on the local news at noon, and you're right - it IS a mess.

Like I said in another thread, you'd think people that get snow every year would know how to drive in it ... obviously they don't.

I don't mean to belittle others' misfortune, but whenever I see something like this I thank Buddha I no longer drive.

Why do you no longer drive? Or is that personal?

We have had piles ups like that on hwy 99 because of fog...some people just don't know how to drive for different weather conditions.

Not at all. I turned in my license, oh, about 7 years ago. I just didn't want the aggravation, or the expenses, of owning and driving a vehicle anymore. Part of my "Simplification Purge", if you will.

Very true. Yet it doesn't seem to stop them from trying.

You got that right, one time I drive out on the frozen lake, put the car into a spin and learn how to recover from it.
I really dont feel sorry for these drivers that lose control of their vehicles because there is ice/snow on the road, the expert tell you not to drive out there but they do it anyways.

No matter if there was snow or ice, rain, sleet or hail, whenever there was a ton of traffic I would go all Rainman and start asking myself:

"WHERE are they going? It's Wednesday - there's nothing going on on Wednesday! THURSDAY, yes, there are things going on on Thursday, but Wednesday?!? WHERE ARE THEY ALL GOING???"

People would pull up next to me (this was before cell phones and Bluetooth earpieces) and see me muttering to myself, occasionally cursing, and my Italian hands going a mile a minute.

I never did figure out where they were all going, or why it was so important that they would get there.

There are good drivers and BAAAD drivers. I like to follow the good drivers and try to stay clear of the lousy ones.

I can forgive some of the slow ones because they might be new in town and looking for an address or the right off or on ramp.

I drove in that mess for over 30 years in a cold ass bread truck. They would never get warm enough and we were not suppose to leave them running at our stops. Average route have 30 stops so that's a lot of cold truck.
i remember some days a polar bear would have stayed home but people would panic and buy bread and milk like they were going to be shut in for a year.

Tooting my horn a little, I never had an accident. Received several safe driver awards and pats on the back. My main route was Syracuse University so I had to take NYS Thruway to get there. On bad snow days, I saw more accidents than I could count.

Looking back now, I know I couldn't or wouldn't do that again. No siree......

Generally I do know between 6am-9am and 4pm-6pm, it is considered the rush hour,I try to avoid the roads.
I let the 15 year old (driver training) get into this type of "Commuter traffic" just once to show her where all the crazies are,she hates it but I did remind her she is going to be one of those too, eventually.:)

Sifu,
I did the same trip,Boston to Melbourne,Fl., 4 times back and forth but always stopped at the half way mark near Fayesville,N.C.
Washington,D.C. was always the worst part of the trip.

Ugh, D.C. - I felt like I was on a merry-go-round that wouldn't stop! I kept making circles on the Beltway, and every time I spotted my exit there was always a bunch of cars and trucks blocking my way, so I'd go around another time ... and always at rush hour!

I wasn't lost - I knew exactly where I was and wanted to be - I just couldn't get there. :(

We had a lot of car accidents and some deaths in my state. I just don't understand why some people choose to drive when the roads are truly treacherous!
