What was your first car?

My first car was a 1972 Super Beetle, similar to this one. The thing was brutal in the winter. Gas heater never worked so you froze your butt off plus you needed a small hand ice scraper to scrape the ice off the inside of the windshield. It wasn't much but it had an awesome 8 track player in it from Radio Shack. That thing never got stuck, never broke down. It was a BEAST!

.

Hand-me-down 1965 NOVA station wagon was the first car I drove to high school.

1981 Monte Carlo was my first new car.

Did you do anything fancy to it?

Nope

I drove the Monte until 1993 when I bought a new Honda Accord.
I drove the Accord until 2004 when I bought a new Honda Civic
which I am still driving. As you can see, I buy new then drive
the car over 10 years. It has worked out well for me.

A $500.00 1970 Ford Torino.

I had to check all of the fluid levels and top them off before heading to work or school. Pull into every other gas station to put a little air in the tires. If it rained hard I had to spray the plug wires and distributor cap with with WD-40 to get the car to start and that only caused the wires to rot more. On cold mornings I had to stick a pen in the carburetor and give it a squirt of ether. A can of Bar's leaks in the radiator. Always kept a can of dry gas and a can of fix a flat in the trunk next to the jumper cables. I remember that when I stopped at a red light I had to slip the car into neutral and give it a little gas to keep the motor going.

These days all I do is turn the key or hit the OnStar button, LOL!!!

The first car I drove regularly was a 1955 Buick Super, like this one, only 3 tone blue1/blue2/white. :) Not mine though.

James, mine was a VW bug also, but it was a black convertible with red seats. My husband was in the Army, stationed in Germany, and we lived there for a year, and bought the car while there. I didn't know how to drive till then, and learned on the Autobahn (no speed limits). After that, no driving ever scared me again.

We did get another VW some years later, a red one that looked exactly like yours. We managed to get our three kids in the back seat for a memorable vacation up to Lake George, NY, which they're still joking about.

MY 4th or 5th Car was a VW BUG in white same as yours James ..I hated that Car... but we did go onto have VW Camper Vans one of which we still have ( all converted)..

My very first Car was a gift from my brother in 1976 for my 21st birthday .. a tiny 850cc Mini... Like this one ( I don't have any photos of mine from then ) tweed1.jpg

I had 2 ...I got a second hand jet Black 850 about 5 years after the grey one..cost me pennies really and it leaked like a sieve from every orifice lol.. . It's been many years since I was in a tiny car, I think I'd be too scared being so low these days with all the huge 4x4's on the roads now.. and the sheer volume of traffic on our tiny narrow roads..

BTW Did all of you who had V-dubs have the flower vase on the dashboard?
