Two Words: "Senior" And "Age/Number"

I hate it when I am asked for my birthdate by medical staff and pharmacists
and even my broker.

So far I have no problem with any of it, saying my age or being called a senior/whatever. And I'm having some fun with asking for these senior discounts.
Had a fellow over working on our garage door some time ago and we got to talking about work. I said I was retired, then asked jokingly if he gave senior discounts?
"Why yes I do," he said. Bingo! :encouragement:

Being a senior, O.A.P. old age pensioner in the UK, etc
are fine by me.

Unfortunately the youth and the not-so-young of today
have no respect for older people whatsoever, not even
in some families.

Mike.

Mike, we didn't have any respect either. This brings to mind something funny I saw some time ago-

"The world is passing through troublous times. The young people of today think of nothing but themselves. They have no reverence for parents or old age. They are impatient of all restraint. They talk as if they knew everything, and what passes for wisdom with us is foolishness with them. As for the girls, they are forward, immodest and unladylike in speech, behavior and dress."

(From a sermon preached by Peter the Hermit in A.D. 1274)

'The children now love luxury; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are tyrants, not servants of the households. They no longer rise when their elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize over their teachers.'

(Commonly attributed to SOCRATES by Plato

Yes, I MUST watch it. No, she will not automatically stop working, until we move. If the company she is currently working for was to lay her off for some reason, she would go to work for a Agency, until we move. We have already discussed that.

She does tell me, quite often "I wouldn't know what to do if you were working a job and not able to do all the things you do while I'm at work". Oh, she appreciates what I do, that's for sure!

So, I'm just being curious. Just what is it that you do while she is working? Housework?

We have posters on this site that don't look their age. Lon and Holly come to mind. IMO, I think men with facial hair makes them look older. As part of our dress code at United, pilots were not permitted to wear beards. I flew with a junior officer several years ago that wore a very trimmed beard, but I thought he was 32-35. A few weeks later, I came to learn that he was only in his late 20's. He shaved his beard a month or so later and he looked much younger and I could tell that he was in his 20's.

A lot of years ago, I used to wear a mustache for about five years. My wife hated it and complained about it constantly, so I shaved it off just so she would cut out the complaining. My daughter, OTOH, thought it was sexy. (Her words, not mine.) My wife would tell her not to tell me that stuff because it only encouraged me to keep wearing it. Now, when I look back at some of the older pictures, I have to laugh. I can't believe that I did stuff like that. We used to call a mustache a "soup strainer."

We may also have posters who are posting pictures taken twenty years ago—or pictures of someone else. I would never do that, however. This is a recent photograph of me.

This is the reason that we have mustache cups.

There are people on here who know me well..and have known me for several years who are personal friends, they can all vouch that my pictures are not 20 years old or anywhere near it..

I have a daughter in her early 40's who is always mistaken for being in her 20's

Well, I’ll be 69 in a few months and a few months ago wife and I were asked for our ID (for something).

All I know is that I have a full head of hair and as long as I keep using Just For Men Hair Coloring (mustache and temples), no one will ever think I’m almost 69.

As far as putting a picture of myself on here, sorry, but “no way”!!😊😉

Wow, all this talk about age vs looks.

I don't see why anyone has to prove or convince forum members that they look younger than their age. Nobody knows what a person looks like unless they have met them in person face-to-face. Nobody "knows" or is friends with another forum member unless that have spent considerable time with them in person. Sure, some people post older pics, but I think that's mostly on dating sites.

These days most (a lot) of people look younger than their age. Ellen DeGeneres just turned 60. Bernadette Peters is 70 (saw her on talk show a few days ago). People say famous people have all had cosmetic work done.....but...not necessarily.

I'll be 68 in a couple months.....I look 10-15 yrs younger....but SO WHAT?? I don't fish for compliments. I'm not gonna post my ID/birth certificate just to prove something to people on the internet. I have almost no grey hair, and people often accuse me of dying my hair (something I can't be bothered with and I also am afraid of those chemicals seeping through my head). But to post an old pic and say this is me today just to impress some people on a forum would be really lame and pathetic.

For those who look young, fine, good for you, enjoy it.
For those who look their age or older because of nature or health reasons, well, such is life.

/end of rant
