NY City Police Want Access To All State Resident Driver's License Pictures

The NYC police honor the state drivers licenses, so they are already connected. Police have long used DMV data for vehicle registrations and addresses.
I have no problem with this proposal. Our government agencies need to work together for better efficiency.
It's no more a privacy issue than speed and/or red-light cameras.
Driving is a privilage. No one is forced to go to the DMV for the license pic.

Accessing a database is very different from creating another one.

I don't have a problem with it, either. Police here have access to driver's licenses and vehicle registration info -- I don't now how they would do their jobs without it.

I understand they need access but do they need their own database of the same information? Access to a database is different than building/maintaining their own.

To me it's just another database to be abused. Hopefully all current requests with the state require a procedure that documents who requested what. There are already issues with police abusing databases.

It would become even easier to cover up abuse of information if someone didn't have to request another party for it through administrative procedure and/or database passwords etc.
