Hello all. I'm here and hoping to enjoy meeting new friends. I'm from the northeast coast of the US but remarried 10 years ago and relocated to N Ireland so big changes in the past decade for me!

Hope to get to know many of you and will enjoy the friendly exchange.

I have a background in art and am presently retired and doing volunteer work.

Thank you. Boy, you said it, Vivjen! A few thousand miles and a totally new culture! I lived to tell the tale though!
Actually, it's the only foreign country I would want to reside in.

Big changes since then, thank God and they've been courting tourism in the north recently. Though the whole economic downturn as put brakes on much of it.

Hi Gael! Wow, how cool that is to know you met someone and moved to Ireland;) I am an adventure junkie, and part of why I am so down right now. I thank whoever put this forum up because the people here have been so great, I think you will like it here a lot!! Denise in Oregon;)

Welcome to the forum Gael, all the pictures I've seen of scenery in Ireland are just beautiful!

Hi Gael and welcome to the forum......

Sounds like beautiful country Gael. Never been out of the states, if you count going to Canada, I guess I have. Welcome to the forum.

Thanks so much, Pappy. You're right, Ireland is very beautiful alright. And so is Canada to be fair. Vast and scenic. What part of the US are you from? I'm from NJ but my favorite US state was Vermont. Found out I had ancestors from the New England area which may explain it.

i was born and raised in New York State. I now reside in Florida and NY summers. My step dad was from Mt. Holly, NJ. Got to visit NJ in the Army, Fort Dix for basic training.

A beautiful state indeed, Pappy. My father was born in NY state. I remember visiting the Great Lakes district; lovely. And remember For Dix where my brother trained so many years ago.

Hi Gael, welcome to the forum. County Down, huh? I have a good friend who lived in County Down a number of years. He's teaching in in Louisiana now in one of their Universities. when we get together, he still talks of N. Ireland. Again, welcome.

HI there Drifter. Well, how did he like Co. Down and was he born there or was he there from the US working? How did he like it?

No, he's not a native Irishman, he's from Texas. He met a lass from Ireland, they married, and they moved to County Down, where her parents lived. After seven years, she divorced him. He stayed another year in Ireland then returned home. He now teaches At LSU in Louisiana.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the info. Well, he must have applied for residency like I did in order for him to have stayed that long. Not an easy or cheap process. But hope he has fond memories of co. Down.

And this song might be a bit much for him considering how things worked out:
