Anyone seen this magician? called Dynamo? how does he do it ? LOL

This effect has been around for ages.

Notice two things: he's wearing a jacket, and there's a cut in the video to a different perspective just before he performs the effect.
 
He's massive in the UK and is on the tv all the time. I'm taken with him very much. I like his street approach and in his personal life he's very big into charity work which I admire.
He has a significant health challenge he deals with and was bullied as a boy. Magic which he was introduced to by his grandfather has transformed his life.
I really don't want to know his secrets for I am happy to suspend my disbelief so that I can fully enjoy the tricks.

REAL magic was the stuff performed by the masters - Dai Vernon ("The Professor") and the like. They could do stuff literally under your nose, totally surrounded, no fancy camera tricks, no gimmicks, just pure sleight of hand. And it would blow your mind.

"Magic" now is mainly composed of over-budgeted spectaculars where the magic wouldn't work if anyone got too close or if the TV cameras cut to the wrong shot at the wrong time.

Did you look at the link concerning how his tricks are done? And I'm afraid you're wrong about getting close. He also does close up magic.

I didn't need to - I used to perform. You can't do that trick the way he had it set up without video tricks. There's a similar effect where you place a 3' length of rope behind yourself and pull it through to the front, and he could not have used that method in the clip, therefore it's video magic.

And I'm afraid you're wrong about getting close. He also does close up magic.

No, I'm talking about real manual dexterity - prestidigitation, not fixed decks of cards and a "Coin in Bottle" trick that goes back to at least the '30's. He does fancy card fans - big deal, I could point out dozens of pre-teens that could do the same thing.

I'm sorry, but I'm just not impressed. The language barrier is too much for me to deal with as well - I only understood every sixth word.

And I'm sorry but you're not getting the info correct and just assuming. That you won't even examine the explanations says it all. Also that you can't understand his accent is prejudicing you I'm afraid.

No, you don't understand - I watched the first video of him performing the effect. I've seen it done dozens of times before and I know how it's done. The particular set-up he had in that video is NOT PHYSICALLY POSSIBLE to perform using the known method, therefore it is a video edit - notice how the camera changed when he walked away from the group?

Have him try to do that right in front of me and I guarantee he wouldn't be able to. ALL of these so called new-wave magicians use video trickery in their acts - it's an accepted thing to do nowadays, even for the big names.

Also that you can't understand his accent is prejudicing you I'm afraid.

Not at all. I simply cannot understand when someone says "Loh-a-ree ticket". That's a difference in linguistics, that isn't prejudice. But if I can't understand what a performer is saying then I am not likely to be entertained unless he's Marcel Marceau.

Ah well, we'll agree to disagree. As for his accent, I've gotten used to these UK accents having lived here now for a decade. Add to that the Irish ones and it gets really interesting!
 
Well there is no need to get your knickers in a knot , he is a magician and they all have different ways of doing things, i have seen a lot of his tricks and i can honestly say they are brilliant, just enjoy it for what it is. :fword:

I think Gael knows I'm just a freakish OCD type when it comes to conjuring (and a few other topics that I'll conceal right now just to preserve the surprise), and we're just having a Quiet Man-style, knock-down drag-out fight, then we'll retire to the pub and have a few whiskies together. ;)

Pappy no fist fights i am just standing up for the man, i have seen a lot of his shows and he leaves the people gobsmacked with his tricks, i just don't like seeing people rubbishing a man who is obviously clever.
And as for you Phil you realise those knickers are for covering your private regions not slapping each other on the head with them eeewww :bigwink:
 
OH, an "Irish" American. A breed all it's own. Cork is one of my absolute favorite parts of Ireland; their accent is the best for me though greatly maligned here by the natives.

It was my paternal grandmother who "came over on the boat" from there - not sure of the exact location - but she was a feisty one! My Italian grandfather always told me as a little kid not to get Grandma mad, and he often hid out in his tomato garden to avoid her wrath. I laugh thinking about those two every time I hear that Italian men are attracted to the green-eyed lassies. :p

Yet she was a wonderful cook, always very loving to me and even let me eat sugar cubes from the sugar bowl. :rolleyes:

This is some combination. Explains a lot!

Well, Cork has a lot to offer and they have my favorite accents. Though many here swear they're unintelligable.
Italians are my second favorite ethnic group after the Irish. And it's too true they can stick it to you! My ex (Italian American) had a grandmother who lived to 103 and once years ago she had a grudge against some neighbors. She invited them over for dinner which they loved. She was a great Italian cook. What they didn't realize is that she served them cat.
