Press the ‘untrue stereo types’ about Canadians

In others threads I’ve been basically told that I am Canadian and too nice. I didn’t really see this as a negative thing and didn’t think it was a worldly known phenomenon until I looked it up.

We are , in fact , known for being overly polite and friendly to the rest of the world.

Is this such a bad thing?

I'll agree that the Canadians are some of the nicest people on the planet. We've taken a couple of nice trips through Central and Western Canada, and they have been great vacations. I would like to have a Summer home in Kenora, Ontario...on the shore of Lake of the Woods, or near Edmonton, Alberta....Beautiful surroundings, and friendly/polite people.

Summer home. Yes. Winters in Kenora are brutal. Lake of the Woods is spectacular and they rent out houseboats. The fishing is fantastic. The grocery store there has a dock. You can pick up your groceries by boat.

Yeah, I probably would not enjoy Canadian Winters. Kenora is one of the nicest places I've seen....in the Summer. Some of the people have houses on islands on the lake, a garage/boathouse on shore, and travel to/from with their boats. The main harbor has traffic lights in the water so the boaters give the "right of way" to the endless float planes coming and going...probably taking vacationers further North to some of the other lakes.

I have been a "member" of a social media site called "seniors world wide" that is run by a Canadian or two, and most of the members are Canadians, and they spend all day posting nasty things about the United States . Lot's of name calling. However, they just announced they are closing the site because of low participation, and therefore low revenues. I guess they are not the Canadians you all are referring to.

I have found all Canadians I have conversed with to be polite but some had an agenda, too, however you spell that, and were a bit snide, too, there were also some who were down right obnoxious. Sorry if I offend but it is how I saw it.

Hoot please don't judge all Canadians by a few on that forum. I was a member there until recently and some did not like the politicians but that doesn't mean they didn't like and respect American citizens. I don't remember any unkind remarks about American people.
I have relatives in eastern US and my brother and family live in Seattle so I have a fondness for US people and the country.
Don't judge us all by a few nut cases.

I'm Canadian. So I can talk about it.

Road rage here is just as bad as anywhere.

I think if we had the same gun laws as the U.S. there would be a lot of motorists dead from gunshot wounds.

Also. Don't ever leave anything outside overnight like a bike. It will be gone overnight.

I wander around some time and entered the forum called "Your mileage will vary".

I have been on forums for twenty years and have never encountered such nastiness in my life.

It makes 'seniors world wide' look like Sunday school.

Let's face it... people are people, no matter where they live. :D

It's naive to think that ALL citizens of any specific country are ALL NICE or ALL NASTY. Politics seems to be a big divider of people, anywhere.
I agree with C'est Moi.

I've had many Canadian friends (real time, face to face, not electronic fantasy 'friends') and found them all to be nice as well as kind, sensible and witty with very wry humor. However, I doubt they're representative of an entire population. I got lucky.
