No Ina, you would just have to hold them, pet them play with them, etc. They would take care of the litter boxes...those places probably have a whole dedicated litter room, LOL!
If you think about it, the Japanese as a nation seem to be in love with cats. People walk around with fuzzy cat earmuff on their heads. They invented Hello Kitty. Tons of videos on YouTube featuring cats originate from Japan. Their manga often follows a cat theme.
When I was a boy in Japan with my family, just couldn't understand why what appeared to be nice places with nice ladies had big signs announcing "OFF LIMITS" . . . !
I had cats all my life. My health isn't so stable that I would take in animals, which depended on me to keep them alive. So yeah, I'd go to a cat house., I'd get all the pleasures of petting the little buggers, but not have to haul out tons of cat litter. The idea of "cat houses" has been around for a while. They are a big hit in Japan. Does anyone know if they have been started in the US & UK? If so, have they been successful?
We have one in our neighborhood here in San Jose. They are both a cat cafe and adoption center. They haven't been open for much of 2020 due to covid restrictions but they were open for a while in late summer through mid November when our numbers were down. It's kind of fun to drive by seeing families and people coming from or going to the cafe. They're always so happy.
