A concealed carrier critically wounded a man who opened fire at a crowded “peace” rally Saturday afternoon in Titusville, Florida, police said.


The suspect got into a fistfight with another person at the “Peace in the City” rally and back-to-school event at Isaac Campbell Park, returning later with a gun, police said.


The suspect started shooting just after 5 p.m. and an armed bystander returned fire, shooting the suspect in the head, police said.


The suspect, who police have not identified, was airlifted to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, Florida Today reported. No other injuries were reported.


Authorities said no charges were expected against the bystander, who was licensed to carry a firearm and was fully cooperative with investigators.

 

But that's not the answer we want is it?

That depends on luck. Why are we faced with guns now to settle verbal arguments?

There has to be a better way to screen people.

That includes me. I have a short fuse.

What are you talking about- "answer we want". The guy was shooting into the crowd after a fist fight- not a verbal argument. Read the article, please.

Doesnt matter whether it's a fistfight or not. That's no way to settle an argument and my point is it's all too common now.

There are some people who should not be allowed near a gun.

Once again you are depending on luck. Is that the answer?
 
In this case, I'm glad it turned out the way it did. Could have been yet another tragedy.

But I have to wonder, where were the police? Why did law enforcement have to rely on a concealed carrier, who I presume was a civilian? (Or was he a plainclothes cop?)
 
Good to hear Rose, there are a lot of instances similar to this but you don't hear much about them on the news. Good to have a licensed carrier who acts responsibly, it can often be a lifesaver around these lunatics.
 
I have a concealed weapons license. I hope I never have to use mine. I would use it for self-defense or in a situation
such as this.

All carriers Of concealed weapons are screened properly by the authorities. Believe me, it is a long and tedious process
and requires background checks and character witnesses. This man acted rightly in the line of duty and saved many lives.

He should be applauded for his heroic actions.
 
I don't think the police should have needed to be "summoned." Why were they not there, at a crowd scene? Or if they were there, they apparently were asleep at the switch.

There was probably a police presence, but Titusville isn't a very big town so they may have been stretched thin, who knows? The police can't be everywhere at all times.

Sorry to say, so not true in every instance, some states don't even require a permit to conceal.

Not taking away from the hero in the story as he did do a just deed in saving many lives and I too applaud that.
