There is no NOW or PRESENT and certainly no FUTURE, everything, our very life is HISTORY.
The screen you are looking at is history.

Since light travels at a finite speed - 983571087.9 fps - it takes time for it to bounce from the screen to your eye. When you see a word or image, you are seeing it as it looked some time in the past.

The image of a book you are reading or on your PC screen takes about 1 nanosecond or one billionth (1,000,000,000) of a second to reach your eye. You are seeing everything in the past - it is accumulated history.
The PRESENT cannot exist, since time is continuous.

The illusion of PRESENT is the mathematical integral of time "dt" between infinity and the time taken at the speed of light for the image to reach your eye, it all becomes MEMORY.

The illusion of PRESENT = MEMORY = HISTORY

Those accumulated increments of infinitesimal time are conveniently transformed by us into seconds, minutes, hours, days, months and years to constitute the illusion of a PRESENT and a positive PAST. We are actually all living in the past.

How has this affected how you personally live your life? Or has it?

Mr. Bull...So what does your "educated mind" mind tell you as to "how this has affected how you personally live your life"? And don't tell us that there's no such thing as life because of the speed of light....oh, never mind, you already said "our very life is history".

So I take it you're not really here

Good question, Olivia

Ha - Ha very funny. I am not going to explain the difference between educational progress and personal choice of lifestyle.

Yes, Olivia, isn't it :D

Mr. Bull, how can you have a choice if you're not here? aka "our very life is history"

Please refrain from being silly and destroying the topic with frivolous remarks. If it is above your ability to understand, please ignore the thread.

I was present at the time I began reading the 1st. post in this thread. I am still present as I type this. So I conclude being present is possible. Seeing, touching, hearing are examples of the past. That as a concept makes sense to me since to transmit the sensory input those do take time. But IMO to accept the idea that there is no present, that denies our existence.

I will use your words (from another thread of yours) to respond..."I would point out in case you do not realise, that we are on a discussion Forum and are free to [post] anything in our daily lives, whether it be trivial and irrelevant or some catastrophic event spelling the doom of humanity. If you don't like [my opinion], then don't get involved, walk on by and let others enjoy the discussion."

I might add to the last line..."and keep on walking because we don't liken to rudeness here".

OK Lara, have a nice day. If you moderated your posts, you would not get any adverse replies. Now please return to the topic or walk away.

Excuse me, Monsieur, I respectfully suggest that any attempt to bully and patronise SF women will not end well. This is a friendly site. Perhaps if you read the forum rules, you would realise that Admin has clearly stated that we are expected to treat each other with respect.

And your posts are indicative of a friendly site Shalimar. ? I don't buzz that one. Are you unable to keep to topic ?

I apologise Shalimar, nobody is perfect - my mistake.

Basically, this is the old "Zeno's Paradox" discussion that has been around a long time.

Sure, we live in the "real continuum of time", and just like the real line in number theory, there are between any two points on the real line, an infinite number of real points, so in our lives on this journey there are an infinite number of moments of time to pass through.

So, as in Zeno, an arrow can't really travel from one point to another because it would have to pass through an infinite number of points, hence would never arrive at its destination.

This has bothered thinkers ever since Zeno. That's why its called a paradox.

As for future, yes there is. I plan on returning to this topic sometime in the future. I will be in the now or present while I read. After reading the posts those will be in the past. We exist in the now as fleeting as it is.

I ignored your post 12 because it showed that you have not understood a word of my starter post.
The whole scientific FACT is that there is NO PRESENT. So how could I respond ? All you described was NOT PRESENT it was HISTORY.
I refer you to read my opening post carefully, taking into account what the mathematically convenient term INFINITY actually means.

The older I get the more I make it a point to acknowledge each day because it will never occur again.
That statement will never be written at this time by me EVER again. It's history.

When I posted that I would post again in my future to this topic.. As promised I returned at this time.

You are wrong in simply because I was present to write the post. When you read it it was history to you. If you aren't present then how do you explain your existence? Or are you a non life form as in a robot that has been programmed to post theories from an unnamed source.
