Emojies - Get no pleasure from them

:tongue: I couldn't resist. Sorry to add to your discomfort. I think they are rather amusing...most of the time.

The good thing about emojies is that they make up for the lack of tone of voice or facial expressions when you've got only words. Sometimes when you're just kidding, an emojie can make it clear that you are.
 
I guess I don't find humor in them. I know I don't. My resistance to the tech world has a lot to do with it too, I guess. My daughter is 55 and she never uses them in our conversations..don't know if she uses them otherwise.

It's funny Jam, many years ago when I first started seeing the simple smiley face on tee shirts, bumper stickers and other things, before I even had a computer, I just hated it. Now it doesn't bother me at all, not annoyed in the slightest. Like you, I haven't really embraced all that's going on in the tech world, but smileys are okay with me. :)
 
I was born much earlier than you S.B. so that could be a lot to do with it. I have friends who NEVER got a computer, those who unplugged them and we call each other on a phone believe it or not, a land phone.

I've been trying to connect with an old friend and she's having financial issues so we don't see each other, and she said her desk top was broken and didn't know if she could afford to fix it. The tech world has put MANY in lots of debt too.

Perfect answer IMHO. That's the one thing lacking in keyboard communications and sometimes it avoids someone taking your comment in the wrong light. If the "emoji' is smiling or laughing, then your intent can't be disagreeable.:)

They have brought me no ease and comfort to my life. I guess I'm the exception in this world. ummm....

Now I like ummmmm's. and I like grrrrrrrrr's..... and I like Ugh's....and even Yike's.....
 
LOL is used when people think they said something funny. It's so corny...telling everyone to laugh or announcing they're laughing out loud. Who cares? Sheesh.
 
Although I've learned how to make cute birthday greetings with my knowledge and use some emojies, like birthday cakes, song notes, hearts, flowers and do get rather creative for this old gal.. Various colors and font sizes...it's rather fun and my friends enjoy receiving the personal touch. jam

Age may have something to do with it Jam. I didn't get my computer until the year 2000, and have only used one desktop shared with my husband, no other devices. My cell phone is an older flip-phone, prepaid Tracfone, used for emergencies or very short calls to hubby. I still prefer using my landline to call friends and family, and don't intend to get rid of it.

I resisted the computer and learned on an Apple while working for Hitachi in San Jose, CA (silly valley as it was called) and so resisted it, I went up there from LA with Hitachi on a transfer and that silly valley is thick thick thick with engineers and technology. That was some time I had, had good experience but left and came back to Hollywood land -- loved my movies.

I have not even gotten a cell phone, close but haven't done it yet. Give me a good ole land phone to talk to friends, at least I have a speaker phone system...I've graduated. j

I got my desk top in 2005 and this is my 3rd and love this Lenovo. j
 
Lately, a lot of the younger people seem to have switched from LOL to "ha ha." That really does mean they're laughing, but it always sounds sarcastic to me.
