Another case of professional athletes behaving badly

4 NFL players arrested for not paying a $64,000 bar bill in London England while there for game the following day. Apparently it turned in an argument then police and arrest. The club agreed if the bill is paid charges will be dropped.

I've heard stories of professional athletes stiffing establishments and wait staff for tips etc. But when one is out of country you would think they would realize their celebrity, lawyer or agents probably won't be able to get them out of it.

And what the heck does one get for 64K

The football players think they are better than any body else no matter where they play
Its too bad they weren't arrested and thrown in jail for 6 months
Its just another embarrassing situation for the NFL Sue

"VIP tables have a minimum spend of £3,000, while bottles of champagne start at £450 and rise to a 15l nebuchadnezzar bottle for £55,000. According to nfl.com the players were sent bottles that they believed were on the house, and the disagreement occurred when they were asked to pay."

yikes

Sounds like a scam to me. I don't blame them. I wouldn't pay $55 Grand for a car, never mind a bottle of wine.

With respect, handsome cat; because they make a ton of money for having fun does not justify gouging, imho.

i wasn't justifying it-I was just saying they wouldn't miss the money. Most of them have multi-million dollar contracts.

They were released with no further action, and were at pains to say they "allegedly" tried to leave.

Of far more importance to me is what were highly paid sports professionals doing carousing in the small hours the day before a big game?

I would think players would have a curfew the night before a game. Regardless how could 4 guys drink that much, sounds like a little gouging going on.

Could be true about the gouging , that might be disclosed later?

But , how would you like your employer setting a curfew for you? These are professional , adult employees . Not some high school/college team, playing an exhibition game.

Personally. I think it's a rip off and trying to take advantage of ignorant tourists.

The British don't like Americans. That's my opinion.

Nothing to do with being Americans, and the owners are unlikely to be British.

The sort of immigrants we get from Eastern Europe will rip off anybody and everybody.

rgp: You asked me how I would like my employer giving me a curfew, well, I will tell you this, if I was under contract and made the big $$$ that they do, I would not mind it at all. They have to follow other rules that are made either by the NFL or the coach so that should be one of the rules I think.

Which countries do you consider to be Eastern European? That always confused me. Thx.

Runania, Bulgaria, Listmania. Certain elements from Poland, though the motility of our Poles are decent hardworking people and a definite arses (and the girls are very lovely, and I don't care if that is sexist!)

It doesn't change what I said.

I'm not trying to change what you said, just counter your argument.

I'm not sure it's entirely true to say that the British don't like Americans. Maybe the English did, up to the 70s and 80s, but I'm not sure they do now, though it is difficulr to get a true picture since it is illegal to say you don't like Americans.

Certainly the Scots are well aware of how much they owe to US golfers, and, just as important, what "golf widows" spend, and the value to the Scottish economy of $1.25 billion of Scotch whisky exports.

I see your point but...what about corporation executives? They make [in many cases] millions of dollars as well. Are they under curfew ? I doubt it.

Don't get me wrong...I am not defending the players for the money owed. But if they can perform on the field, after a night on the town, then IMO their employer has no business setting any type of curfew.

Besides the players, being the primadonna they are....are likely expected to be in the clubs & such when playing in a foreign land.....just for PR...jmo

I think any rules for the players would be included in their contract and when signed they are agreed to. IF the rules are in the players contract the employer would have every right to impose them.

I think there must be a little more to this story than is publicized!
