Because of how active I am online, I have developed friendships with people from all over the world. The abuse in my marriage, for example, spawned a desperate online search back in the 90's for some kind of support forum or group that could help me navigate and deal with what I was going through. I made some lifelong friends through that original support group, and there is a core group of us that have stayed in touch for 20+ years as we've each escaped the abuse in our life and rebuilt ourselves.
I have a gardening forum that I've been a part of for years, an addiction forum (one of my sons is an addict, in recovery for almost 4 years jft) and of course social media groups like Facebook etc. As a result, I have friends everywhere, and from time to time I host meet-ups for anyone who can get here which is usually folks from the US, but occasionally I get to hang with the ones from out of the country! One such meet up happened this weekend. My dear friend Eleanor from France, and another friend Fernanda from Mexico came to visit for the w/e. Several other mutual friends traveled to Nashville where I live, and stayed at the local Microtel Hotel (one exit away) and we all got to visit! It was a wonderful time!!!

My son-in-law is next to me, Ron on the other side of me, the lady with the purple hair is Fernanda from Mexico, and my friend Eleanor is second to last on the right with her daughter Soraya at the end. The other folks are various other friends who came to visit, one with her teenaged son (the boy with glasses in the foreground) They came from Kentucky, Atlanta and Alabama. My son in law smoked chickens, every one contributed to the potluck dinner, and we all caught up!
Do you have out of the country friends? Do you ever get to see them?
